Would Straight Soldiers Let The Gays Die?

One of the more ridiculous excuses for maintaining Don't Ask, Don't Tell as military policy came from Senator James Inhofe yesterday.

Senator Inhofe suggested during an interview that straight soldiers wouldn't be willing to fight as vigorously to keep their gay counterparts alive in battle. To me, it's completely ridiculous and an insult to our military!

I think it shows just how desperate some people are to come up with excuses for the policy. Next thing you know they'll be crying gay orgies

  1. Well. . .
. . .there IS a bit of truth to this (and a point I’ve long worried about). . .
. . .let us NOT FORGET, gang, there WAS a problem with this in the early days when African-American servicemen were allowed to fight. . .
. . .this should not be a reason to keep gays and lesbians out of the military; but it is a concern.

  2. I think a much bigger argument is missing here. I doubt that some flaming drag queen, or sissy boy would be likely to join the military. Most gay guys in the military are probably very reluctant and would continue to be reluctant to out themselves. I think the bigger reason to repeal DADT is to protect the privacy of the gay service members and to assure them that **IF** their secret is revealed then their entire career will not go down in flames. It is about respect and dignity and anyone serving their country in the military deserves that respect. Not all gay men and women wear their sexuality on their sleeves. And it is time this country catch up with the rest of the world.

  3. I cannot talk about US Army foce, wich for what I read and listen, they are actually way more open and adapted for this kind of issues, than for example, my country army force. (Mexico)
I could take those words about discrimination on th service and they would aplly perfectly with the situation of the Mexican military forces.
If the national military don’t care about the population they “swear to protect”, lees they are goin to deffend (or goin further, to not harm) someone of their own troop for bein gay.
Mexico’s has a very tought history of machism, heterocentrism and sexism that still today is conflictive, and the army and autorothies are a perfect example.
Ev’n there no crime of two gay men or women to hang around together, kissin on public or holding hands, more than 30% of the LGTB population tells that they’ve been harrased by militar and police forces, many asking for money do they are not being arrested, sum not even takin that chance and being arrested behalf “inmoral conduct on public space”, spite the “The law to prevent discrimination” implies that No man or women should be arrested, banned, censurated or dicriminated for public showns of affection spite their sexuality and gender identidy.
Only 11% of the cases has formal case, while the others said they been receiving death treaths from autorithies so they don’t sue them. From the cases presented, not even the 1% has a sentence, wich would be just a verbal warning, and if you get lucky, small amount of money, from you wouldn’t see a penny.
If that is the case with the regular civilian, what would it be for the man who serves in the military force?? I used thear from other guys that for even just having a elicate voice you could be teased over and ver again, what it could be for a open gay man in the mexican military?
I hope that isn’t remotly the case on US, and if it’s not and everything is more open as I asume, I really hope the DADT policy to crumble and fall down, with the hope that the example you people offer tothe world, my country military will open their eyes. A victory for one is a victory for all.

  4. These dumb ass old fucks on Capital Hill ALL need to be tossed out, yet people keep voting for them. Suit his ass up and ship him to Iraq. That comment is beyond ignorant. The tolerance for this shit blows my mind.

  5. Sadly, Sen. Inhofe only confirms what already occurs regardless of orientation. As a member of the US Navy (and out to many of my shipmates), discrimination/discriminatory remarks are evident on nearly a daily basis. Sen, Inhofe is not the first person to make such a statement about who we select to protect. When we took our oath, we expect to fight, under the premise that our fellow shipmates will do everything in their power to protect their own. It’s nice on paper. However, if you really believe that, then racism, sexism and homophobia no longer exists.

  6. That is the dumbest thing i’ve heard in a long while…
If he’s army then he should know that when people go through basic training together and then are deployed there is a very strong bond that forms between them; no matter the race, sex, sexual orientation. and even if it didn’t, no decent humanbeing is going to let another human being die if they can help it.
he is just projecting his own insecurities and misconceptions about homosexuality for the world to see.
when will people realize they as gays we are not attracted to every man in the world and that homosexuality does not “rule” our lives. we have families, friends, jobs, hobbies, etc to deal with on a daily basis.

  7. I have served 6 years in the US Navy as a Officers after graduating ROTC. I have had gay soldiers under my command through 2 tours through Iraq and I can bet my life that anyone wearing the uniform will die and kill to protect our own. On a less serious note, Things get really ” gay ” in the desert and our free time. Streaking, and cock fights made me wonder if everyone has a gay side.
