Whitney Houston Died

In some shocking and very sad news, Whitney Houston was found dead today. She was 48.

This is painful. Despite having some obvious battles with substances in the past couple of years, Houston (daughter of singer Cissy Houston and cousin to another singer – Dionne Warwick) had a legendary voice and was absolutely one of the greats.

TMZ reports that Houston was discovered lying unconscious by an aide this afternoon in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Emergency medical personnel were called, and CPR was performed on her. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.

In her career, Whitney won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards. Her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts, and she sold 200 million albums worldwide.

Whitney had one daughter with her ex-husband, singer Bobby Brown. Bobbi Kristina is 18.

The cause of death isn’t known at the is point, but an investigation is ongoing.

I’m sure we will write further about Whitney this coming week, but for now I just want to be sad. 48 is way too young. That is a lot of talent leaving the planet.

  2. I was 15 when her first album came out, so she was and has remained a major part of my life. I will think of the happiness and joy and power she brought to my life.

  3. This is a very sad day and my heart goes out to her family. Growing up I remember listening to all of her music and thinking one day to see her in concert. Of course that day never came, now she is in a much better place, no more pain or suffering. Her talent will be missed and her voice will always be unforgettable. We love and will miss you Whitney.

  4. I want to cry but i just can’t. I’m the kind of guy who can’t cry even when facing death. But i am extremely sad that one of my favorite divas died. I am so, so, so sad she is gone.  Oh gosh… i’m afraid to even listen to her music now.

  5. Sad tonight over the death of Whitney,loved her music and her voice, talent like that doesn’t come along often. The sad part was she had to hook up with that Scum bucket Bobby Brown, hope that drug pushing piece of shit rots in hell for what he did to this women.

What a great catalog of hits she leaves behind.  Romantic ballads like “You Give Good Love and “Saving All My Love for You.”  I defy anyone to listen to “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and not be tapping their foot or bouncing to the beat by the first chorus!  Her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV (?) may be the greatest performance of that song ever.  And any of these young auto-tuned current radio darlings who think they’re talented need to listen to Whitney’s performance of “One Moment in Time” at the Grammys and shut the f up.

    48 is way too young for a woman with her talent and potential.  You had such a tumultuous life, Ms. Houston.  I hope you have finally found peace.

  14. I was just thinking about her a few weeks ago.  I was watching the movie The Preacher’s Wife, and i thought she was wonderful in it.  My eyes are filling with tears because we lost another performer way before their time.  What the fuck!

  17. She was so beautiful. I will always remember her from my teen years. Saving all my love was the first I heard from her and I was in love w/ her voice and class. That s how I will always remember her.  I hope her death can be used to teach about drug use and how having everything doesn’t save you/us.

  19. She provided so many great songs for us to enjoy, giving us so many moments of pleasure. 

    But for me, I’ll always remember her for showing up unanounced at the NYC Pride Pier dance on my birthday.  We were waiting for the fireworks, when they stopped the music, and announced something like, “now, as a special surprise, to show her support for the community who has supported her for all these years, Miss Whitney Houston…”  And the crowd went NUTS… even though a lot of people thought it was a drag queen at first!  😉  This was at the height of her fiurst comeback, when “It’s Not Right, But It’s OK” was the biggest song in all the clubs.  The whole event was later documented on MTV.

    Thanks, Whitney for that great borthday surpise, and for all of the great moments you’ve given us.  I hope you found peace after so much struggling.

  22. so sad her voice was legendary at first you might have not liked her voice but it grew on you the way a gorgous voice does like  the woman who sings  no one and falling but timeless its a ashame real talent.  its a shame that bobby brown will become a multimillionaire because her catalog is goin to go through the roof

  26. everytime I want to sing an amazing ballad that speaks to my soul and deepest feelings Whitney Houston never failed…. Her greatest hits cd was the soundtrack to my showers.  What a shame.

I admit that I will always find it surprising when someone who’s been a horrible role model for the future of the world, (Clinton – a president who lied under oath, Nixon – a president who’s caught authorizing crime, Lohan/Hilton/Sprears – bitchy whores who skew the way young girls look at fame and fortune, Huston – bitchy icon who uses her relative to get famous, then throws her out in the cold while she ruins her role model status by sucking up hundreds of pounds of cocaine, knowing impressionable young kids idolize her) get’s such praise.

    Did they make a good impression at least at some point during their lives?  Sure, but the measure of a man (or woman) is not reflected in his or her words or promises, but in their ACTIONS!  Clinton is still looked at fondly by millions.  Nixon got his own library in Yorba Linda, California!, Hilton and Spears are said to be sobering up, but Whittney?  She didn’t turn around until… oh wait, she never turned around.

    Don’t waste your time on this worthless waste of electro-chemical energy.  She may have been pretty (once) and she may have been a strong woman, but she turned that strength into a mean spirited, holier-than-thou, self proclaimed Diva who abused her fame and fortune and then abused her cousin and her staff and her fans.

  36. Good lord, how I miss the young Whitney Houston. With few exceptions, I lost interest after the first two albums.

    I maintain that both of Dolly Parton’s versions of “I Will Always Love You” far outshine Whitney’s. But then Dolly is the musical genius who actually wrote the song.

  40.  And granted, 48 seems young, but in crack years, that’s over 330, which is pretty impressive if you ask me.

    I wonder how many albums she’ll go on to release.
