Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: Reader’s Choice

We always allow suggestions for our Weekly Top Ten music charts, but this week we’re taking it to the next level. The four songs competing for the final slot on this weekend’s countdown are taken entirely from your recommendations. Thankfully, this means that you can’t blame us when a shitty song wins. Not that these are shitty songs or anything…

Today’s Wild Card round features music by Beverley Knight, James Blunt, Cascada and La Roux. You only have one day to vote for your favorite, so click that button before it’s too late! And if you don’t like any of the provided options? Quit your bitching, and leave a comment with a suggestion for next week!

– Dewitt

To listen and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

Beverley Knight f/ Chaka Khan – Soul Survivor: This is a live version of Beverley’s latest single, but you can hear the studio version with Chaka Khan over here. And let’s not forget the thumpin’ Bimbo Jones remix! It’s so gay that listening to it multiple times will result in teleportation to a sweaty, testosterone-packed dancefloor.

James Blunt – Stay The Night: As annoying as that fucking “You’re Beautiful” song may have been, there’s no denying that James Blunt is the most attractive guy in this competition. Of course, that’s not saying much, considering that the rest of the contestants have vaginas. Or at least we think they do.

___________________________________________________________

Cascada – Pyromania: Um, didn’t we already feature this back in February? Somebody’s a little tardy for the party! Perhaps this huge gap in time will allow listeners to ignore that “Pyromania” and “Evacuate The Dancefloor” are basically the same song…

La Roux – Quicksand: Speaking of being late to the game, this one’s over a year old. We’re willing to forgive you in this case. The US promotion trail for La Roux didn’t really take off until “Bulletproof” became a hit, so it’s understandable that you’re just now catching on.

  1. This is the first I’ve heard of Beverly Knight, and I really enjoyed that song. She gets my vote.

La Roux, get to the point already!! “I’m in the quicksand. I’m in the quicksand. I’m in the quicksand.” Does this really make for a good chorus? Yawn! Loved “Bulletproof.” What happened?

James Blunt’s voice reminds me of the pedophile from “Family Guy.” I’m a JB fan generally, but Beverly blew him away.

  2. I actually liked all four suggestions, but ultimately chose Cascada. Beverley night has a lovely voice (and is freakin’ gorgeous) and I can hear everything she says clearly, but the song didn’t grab me. James Blunt’s song was very good, but I can’t stand his delivery…something about his diction annoys me. LaRoux was good but I agree with Sparky…the chorus is really repetitive.

Cascada’s was fun, upbeat, and the singer looked like she was having a ball.

  3. Beverly Knight for sure. If you are interested in her, also check out the Freemasons mix of Keep This Fire Burning, which is stunning.

I like James Blunt and he was great opening for Jason Mraz when he was first starting out, but Mraz does Mraz better than Blunt does Mraz.

  4. None of these songs appeal to my music taste. I guess I don’t fit the trend of liking what the “typical” gay guy likes. My favorite song right now is Unleashed by Epica. The music video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNGzltK_tlc

A song that might fit more into the appeal of those here would be Utopia by Within Temptation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEIvlihb2Ms But that song is very unlike the rest of their music.

But most of what I listen to is symphonic rock/metal much like Unleashed by Epica. Maybe try to get some mellow songs by them in here? But I’m not really sure they would last very long anyways.

  5. I go for La Roux because In For The Kill is gonna get eliminated this week from the chart so at least we have them present again in the countdown. They really deserve a successful crossover to the American market.

  6. Like Andrew, my musical tastes don’t fit what is usually on here. I’d suggest, but I’m afraid I’d be laughed off the board! lol

  7. Everyone should realize Cascada has like 5 songs she’s just changed the lyrics to over and over again.

Does that make them any less sickening?

    Nope.

  8. all Cascada songs sound the same. But I still wouldn’t know it was her if I heard it. And I just can’t with James Blunt.

Although Quicksand may not be my favorite song on the album, it beats the other options.
