Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: Call It A Comeback?

Thanks to a cameo by a certain “living legend”, Rihanna will undoubtedly return to our Weekly Top Ten countdown with her kinky single “S&M”. So why did she ever leave? We’re not entirely sure, but it’s nice to see her getting a second chance after a surprisingly short six-week run.

In the spirit of RiRi’s comeback, we’re devoting today’s Wild Card round to a few songs who left us too soon. Or, um, never quite arrived at all. Your options include trashy pop urchin Ke$ha, Beth Ditto, The Black Eyed Peas and Oh Land.

You know the drill by now, right? Four tracks are presented, and only one can make it onto our Weekly Top Ten. Your votes determine who’ll achieve this prestigious honor. Speaking of which, have you voted on this week’s charts? The polls are open until Friday!

If you’re not feeling any of these options, we urge you to leave a comment with your pick for the next countdown. There are no limits in regards to genre, sound or style. Just let us know what you’re listening to, and maybe you’ll see it on our rankings!

– Dewitt

To listen to these selections and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

James Van Der Beek & The Unicorns f/ Ke$ha – Blow: Wait, that’s not the official billing of this track? We apologize for the mistake! Despite a persistent demand for Ke$ha’s “Blow” on the charts, the song only managed to last two rounds on our countdown. And we had to save it for the second one! The things we do for you…

___________________________________________________________

Beth Ditto – I Wrote The Book: Needless to say, Beth Ditto is the most obvious underdog in today’s competition. Whatever! We still think she’s doing the whole Madonna ripoff (at least in the visual sense) way better than Gaga or Christina Aguilera… Oh, and if you haven’t already acquired your own copy of this spectacular dance track, it’s this week’s free download on iTunes.

Black Eyed Peas – Just Can’t Get Enough: Admittedly, we haven’t felt the need to listen to this song once since it made its debut on Manhunt Daily. They suffered a similar fate to Ms. Ke$ha Sebert. In other words, we saved them out of respect for your tastes, yet you failed to deliver with your votes. Will a little extra time and airplay help out this pop super-group?

Oh Land – Sun of A Gun: This is the third time we’ve included Oh Land in a Wild Card round. We kind of dicked her over as a last minute addition to our most recent “Comeback” showdown, but now she’s getting the full attention she deserves. Fresh off a win at the NewNowNext Awards (as if that means anything), it’ll be interesting to see if she has what it takes…

  1. Dew, something is wrong with pics on your last 2 posts: we can’t see them. See comments on your previous post.

  2. I Wrote the Book gets my vote, tho it was a toss up between Beth Ditto and Oh Land with Sun of a Gun

  3. yikes I’m stuck between Beth and Oh Land, but I’m afraid if I don’t give Oh Land this vote she might not get another chance. Sorry beth 🙁

  4. I don’t get the beth ditto thing,….that video is the most unoriginal piece,……right down to the skiny gay black men vogueing,……wtf

  5. Did you read the comments Dewitt wrote? It’s SUPPOSED to look like a Madonna video…it’s a tribute to her style.

  6. Oh Land is the real underdog here. Too bad she won’t make it because this round is about to Blow.

  7. Oh La La Land, she deserves it more than anybody else. But to be fair, none of these contenders can stand chance in these cruel Gaga/Britney times.

  8. Lady Gaga has a new remix of Born This Way that is getting tonnes of attention and some radio play. It is bollywood inspired and mixed by some of the best mixers and djs in India.

It is much better than the Country Road Mix and I even like it better than the original mix.

It is called: Born This Way – The Indian Mix.

You can listen to it on her website or youtube it.

It is amazing! Fantastic beat and energy.

  9. I heard that indian version yesterday after she tweeted it. There’s nothing to it apart from a few traditional indian sounds here and there.

Country road mix was generally a departure from Express yourself sound. But I dont know what to call the indian mix. Some weird move to extend her fanbase into india? What’s next? Chinese version?

By the way, Kesha’s Blow joining the list for the 3rd time? I dont think it will succeed this time around.

  10. Maybe you could try some different music on the countdown:

    1. Beastie Boys – Make Some Noise (their new single)

    2. NKOTBSB – Don’t Turn Off The Lights

    3. Roxette – Speak To Me (the new single, will be remixed and available April 18th.)

    4. Kesha – Fuck Him He’s A DJ

    5. Wonderland – Natalia Kills

    OR…

    6. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow – Collide (remember how HUGE picture was?!?) This is an exciting collaboration, although perhaps to mellow. But then again Adele is doing it.

  11. Well whatever “weird” move that Gaga is doing, it kept her song in the top 5 on billboard for its entire duration (1-1-1-1-3-4-5-5), so there is something being done right. I think it is all of these different remixes. Her 1st remix cd of born this way which was sold at stores sold 25000 hard copies. That is unheard of in the record business these days.

  12. I second “Speak To Me” by Roxette – but wait until the mix of it is released on the 18th. It is a beautiful song. remember the last roxette song made it through the wild card round! Feauture this song on Aural Only. It is amazing what Marie can still do after the brain cancer.

I also love Kesha’s “Fuck Him He’s A DJ, but I read that “Sleazy” will be her next single. The remix with Andre 3000 is amazing!

I also second Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock Collide and I think that perhaps the Beastie Boys can add some flare and colour to this countdown.

  13. I absolutely love Ke$ha’s “Blow” video. She didn’t go all out and create a hype shit storm for its release. They just went in, shot it and released it and the final product is so odd and different from any club-pop song that you can’t not embrace it.

I especially love the end with her exaggerated laughing with the unicorns, or the part where James Van Der Beek pulls out HIS bra.

And, other than Britney’s “Till the World Ends”, it sounds incredible in a club (well, they DO have similar choruses).
