Weekly Top Ten: The Return of Kylie & Kitty Purry

As you might notice, the top five artists on our Weekly Top Ten charts are exactly identical to last week‘s countdown. How awfully boring! With that said, there’s a pretty good chance things will get much more interesting thanks to today’s newest entries–Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Kelly Rowland.

Hopefully, those four will have better luck than the Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Hyper Crush and Rebecca Black. None of their songs gained enough votes to stay on our list, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card rejects Belle & Sebastian and TV On The Radio. We wish them better luck next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, dive into Hurley‘s beefy cheeks while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (LW – 1, W5): Due to the release of Femme Fatale, we’ve spent most of the week reading cultural commentary about Britney Spears. Is she a walking member of the celebrity undead? Did she just create an avante-garde pop masterpiece? We will never know the answers to these questions. So we might as well keep dancing.
  2. Adele – Someone Like You (LW – 2, W5): Well, this wasn’t a close race at all. Adele’s second single came in 179 votes behind “Till The World Ends”, making Britney the clear winner of this week’s race. And if you don’t get in more votes, she might continue to slip down the countdown…
  3. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 3, W8): …Because Gaga was only one vote behind Adele. She’s still nowhere near Ms. Spears on the polls, but there may be a bit of a “Born This Way” renaissance going on as we move forward to her album release. Gather around little monsters! It’s time for a serious comeback.
  4. Pink – Fuckin’ Perfect (LW – 4, W11): As much as we love retiring songs from these charts, we’re beginning to wonder if Pink has overstayed her welcome on here. Eleven weeks is a pretty long time. Should she step aside and let a fresh face take over her spot?
  5. Glee Cast – Loser Like Me (LW – 5, W3): Really, guys? Really? This got more votes than the Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Sky Ferreira and Hyper Crush. We understand this being better than Rebecca Black. But even that’s debatable! It confuses us that grown adults would ever choose to listen to this.
  6. Sky Ferreira – 99 Tears (LW – 7, W2): We were going to save John Legend, but we thought we’d take this opportunity to shove Sky Ferreira down your throat. “99 Tears” is a spectacular pop song. Why aren’t you listening to it? Don’t even waste our time answering that question. Just click the link and listen to it right now.
  7. Kylie Minogue – Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love) (DEBUT): Put your hands up if you think Kylie Minogue deserves a spot on the chance! Now put your hands down, because it’ll be really difficult to click and vote if you’re waving your hands in the air like you just don’t care.
  8. Katy Perry f/ Kanye West – E.T. (RETURN): At least the music video had some male booty in it? Don’t worry! It didn’t belong to Kanye West.
  9. Selena Gomez & The Scene – Who Says (WILD CARD): The Disney machine gets all “It Gets Better” on our asses, as Bieber’s eighteen year-old girlfriend (Cougartown! Population: Her) tells us that we’re worth it. We love taking advice from famous people, so we’ll just believe everything she says.
  10. Alex Gaudino f/ Kelly Rowland – What A Feeling (WILD CARD): After several years as a member of Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland is used to being in second place. She may not have won the Wild Card round, but we still thought she deserved a chance! Oh yeah, and I guess this Alex Gaudino guy is pretty okay too?

  1. WOW, last week someone reported that Britney got the largest share of votes of all times here with 24-25%, but I just checked this week’s results and noticed that this time Brit got over 28% of the votes. Dewitt can you confirm that?

  2. I don’t care who peeps vote for on here, except for this single by Adele. It is such a boring snoozefest of a song. All the other songs are so great.

Get rid of this Adele song and hope that she will give us something better than this snoozer (e.g. set fire to the rain)

  3. Someone like you is a great song. The best one on the countdown. Stripped down to the core, not extra noisy like Born this way, awesome vocals and not just the vocals but the way she drags them. Good job Adele.

  4. I just love how he pretty much exonerates every song on the countdown but shits on Glee’s contribution. Glee got my vote cause it’s still damn catchy

  5. So many great songs to vote for!!!!

Adele is awesome, I totally love Born This Way, Loser Like Me is a wonderful original song from Glee and I would love for it to get more radio airplay, the entire world clearly loves Katy Perry as E.T. has become her fourth consecutive Billboard #1 hit, and I am loving everything from Selena Gomez!

  6. This was actually a rare week where I could have voted for 4 or 5! Made choosing hard, but it’s easy to let Adele go for me. Great song, but so damn sad. I really don’t want to hear it everywhere and be put in a bad mood. I’d rather choose to listen when I need it.

  7. Don’t let Pink go. If the song is still here is because people keep voting for her. I gave my vote to Katy, Adele, Kylie, Kelly and Sky this week as well. Suggestion for next week is Little Bad Girl by David Guetta Feat. Taio Cruz.

  8. I guess Britney will be only #1 here so she gets my vote along with Kylie, Kelly Rowland, Katy Perry, Adele and Sky Ferreira.

For next week I recommend the new Fefe Dobson track, “Can’t Breathe”. I know she didn’t have much luck last year with her entries here, but this song could change that. It’s a great tune and with a very hunting sound.

  9. Dear ManHunt:

Over and over again you ask us to make our choices in features like ‘iPhone Wars’ without putting down any of the competition. You also express frustration in your posts about the members who only seem to look at the faults of someone/something featured. Only put positive energy out there, right? Well, why do you attach such negative comments to the Glee song this week? Perhaps some of us ARE young… or are adults and find it empowering or it strikes a chord with us, or is simply catchy? But how can we expect our favorites to do well, when you’re proclaiming that you can’t imagine why ‘grown adults would ever choose to listen to this’?

Is this a true countdown based on the votes of the site members? Or is it simply a list of tunes that you approve of? You already get to insert songs you like, such as Kelly Rowland this week. Who’s going to vote for the Glee song now after your commentary? I thought you were going to set an example for all the posters who hate on so many of the models, videos and songs that you post.

  10. I’m gonna need a new song from Lady Gaga, the album is dropping soon, can we get another single or something…

  11. Till The World Ends has made a huge impact on me lately and is quickly becoming one of my favorites!!! And its one of the weakest track on Femme Fatale (which is amazing by the way, everyone needs to get it)

Adele is my second choice, followed by Sky who is so unappreciated!

  12. TTWE gets my vote! Kylie should really have picked a better single :/ Cupid Boy, Closer & Aphrodite would have made much better singles. It’s a pity cause the album is flawless.

  13. Can’t believe no one is showing Sky any love 🙁

I vote till the world ends as my second just because I’m loving 99 Tears!

  14. hehe, someone got the statistics before me. Britney did it again and this time with a more impressive 28% of the votes.

however this week she doesn’t seem to be doing that great. barely 19% so far. come on #teambritney

  15. Or at least the second time. Who knows? Katy Perry’s been around so much with her singels. Firework was in the countdown twice. I second the suggestion for the Fefe Dobson track, although her video reminded me a bit of the new Shakira song “Sale el sol”.

  16. Britney seems to be #1 only on this countdown. Her single is not on the Top 40 here in the UK and Femme Fatale opened at a disappointing #8 in the album chart.
Suggestion for the Wild Card is a former UK #1 three weeks ago by Nicole Scherzinger, it’s called Don’t hold your breath.

  17. Yes another week at #1 for Britney 🙂 it’s just sad that her chart success here doesn’t reflect how she’s doing on the official charts cause it’s an awesome, dance track
Hopefully it’ll rise with the release of another epic video 😀

  18. She is rising on the official charts dont worry. Not every single is meant to start at no.1. Only 19 single in the whole Billboard history started at no.1 for a reason.

  19. But the story if J.Lo should be a lesson to Britney and Gaga. US & UK markets are really different and you can’t storm UK charts in the same fashion as Billboard. J.Lo debuted at no.1 with On The Floor this week, something what Born this way & Hold it against me failed to do. In fact Britney haven’t had a no.1 in the UK since ‘Everytime’, thanks to thoughtless releases of Gimme More, Womanizer, 3, Hold it against me. No understanding of the market on the behalf of her management.

  20. Couldn’t agree more. I listen to Aphrodite (the album) all the time. Closer, Aphrodite and even ‘Can’t Beat The Feeling’ would hav e been better choices than Put Your Hands Up, but it’s still a great song. 🙂

  21. I also like the new Fefe Dobson track. I would love to see it on here.

Till The World Ends (Billboard Charts – #20-9-23-22) – Hardly a success.

Hold it Against Me (Billboard Charts #1-7-21-34-43-52) – More of a success but only cuz of 1st week digital downloads.

Born This Way (Billboard Charts – #1-#1-#1-#1-#4) I think I and the American public would call that a HUGE success!!

  22. Kirk, you numbers are very very off.

You got it right on Till the world ends, but watch it rise next week to around top 15-12.

Hold it against me (1-6 and then several weeks in the top 10, (i got screen shots) thx to strong radio plays mainly). Then TTWE released and it stops growing on radio and digital sales never picked up, mainly due to lack of airplay.

Born this way (1-1-1-1-1-1-4) Huge success yes. But everything is relative in this word. Just cos gaga spent 5 more weeks at number one does it make HIAM a fail? Will gaga’s born this way be considered a fail in comparison to 15 weeks at no.1 by Mariah’s We belong together?

besides, born this way is a vulgar rip-off of express yourself and loses its credibility simply because of that.

  23. just checked: HIAM stayed in the top 10 for at least 5 weeks. My screen shows it at no.10 with 5 weeks on the chart. I think it finally fell to 11 on the 6th week. I do remember it doing 10-11-12.

    HIAM did something like 1-6-8-9-10-10-11-12—-

so no, it didn’t do 1-7-21

  24. Actually if you compare actual digital downloads and hard sales, Born This Way is the biggest selling single of 2011 so far. It has sold more copies than HIAM and TTWE combined.

I doubt TTWE will rebound much. It may get to #12-15, but that’s about it. It was really bad timing on her handlers’ part.

I think she needs to get How I Roll or The #4 song (i fuckin love it, but can never remember its name, but it is #4)on her CD right away. I think both of those songs will debut at #1, but now is the time.

HIAM didn’t rebound after the video and I don’t think TTWE’s video will make it rebound on the charts. I think another single out soon will do her the trick.

  25. Yahoo Music States:

Ever since it became common knowledge that both Britney Spears and Lady Gaga would both be releasing new singles and albums in the first half of 2011, pop music lovers have been debating which pop diva would own the album sales and radio airplay charts. As of late February, both stars have released their debut singles. Britney Spears released “Hold It Against Me” from her upcoming release “Femme Fetale” and Lady Gaga released “Born This Way” from her upcoming album of the same name. Based on the level of success both singles have experienced straight out of the shoot, round one in the Britney vs. Gaga seems to be a draw.

The debut of “Hold It Against Me” by Britney Spears

“Hold It Against Me” was officially released on January 10, 2011, a day earlier than originally scheduled. On January 19, 2011, Billboard officially announced that Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” had become her second single to hit the top of the Hot 100 in its first week on the charts It sold 411,000 downloads

“Hold It Against Me” entered the airplay based Pop Songs top 10 chart at number 10 in its second week when it jumped from number 16 to number 10.

The debut of “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga stormed to the peak of the Top 100 in a much shorter reporting frame. “Born This Way” was released on Friday, February 11th to coincide with Gaga’s first performance of the song at the Grammy awards on the 13th. On February 16th, Billboard officially announced Gaga’s debut at number 1. She tallied 448,000 digital sales of “Born This Way.” Gaga beat Britney’s numbers despite having far less time for eager fans to snap up dowloads.

Like Britney, Gaga also hit the Pop Chart Top 10 within two weeks. The Lady jumped from number 14 to number 6 and enjoyed a first week radio audience of 78.6 million while Britney had an audience impression totaling 46 million.

It is quite obvious that Gaga’s statistics for “Born This Way” could swallow the “Hold It Against Me Stats” in a single mouthful.

  26. ,it is important to view this in light of their career position. Gaga is coming out of the chute with her third album while Britney is on her seventh album of original material. The fact that Britney is enjoying sales of epic proportions at this point in her career and after her infamous meltdown period balances the scales and leaves the ultimate winner in Britney vs. Gaga undeclared at this point.

So let’s put the Britney vs. Gaga dispute away for awhile. They are both winners. Only time will tell who sells more in the end.

  27. The comparison really has to stop. If you wanna compare, then start comparing Born this way album against related Britney’s Oops I did it again era. I doubt gaga’s album will sell 1.3 million copies in its first week like Oops I did it again sold.

So monsters can cry all they want, but only time will tell. see you in 10 years lol and i’m pretty sure britney won’t be going anywhere.

  28. really guys? you can’t understand how grown men would listen to glee, but u will believe anything selena gomez tells you? wow. talk about a waste of a song.

  29. Why waste time with the Britney vs Gaga debate. The Lady will be releasing Judas soon and that will move the balance in her favor, plus I suspect that the first week sales for Born This Way (the album) will be higher than those for Femme Fatale.

Anyway, I want to suggest the two new David Guetta tracks: Little Bad Girl feat. Taio Cruz and Where Dem Girls At Feat. Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida. I also love the Fefe Dobson track. Such a beautiful and painful love song.

  30. congratulations brit brit!

    1 brit
    2 adele
    3 gaga
    4 kitty
    5 kylie
    6 pink
    7 nicole
