Weekly Top Ten: The Comeback Kids

Lady Gaga, Dangerous Muse, Ke$ha, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Marina and The Diamonds, Roisin Murphy, Alphabeat, Florence + The Machine, The Saturdays, pop, dance, electro, dance, hip-hop, R&B, music, gay, listen, charts, weekly top ten, vote, choose

There's not much of any interest in the top two slots of Manhunt Daily's Weekly Top Ten. Lady Gaga at number one? Yawn! Dangerous Muse trailing right behind her? Double yawn. It's not until you get to the third and fourth spots that the action really begins. Ke$ha and Janet Jackson both needed to be saved last week, and now they've dashed right back into the running. Work it out, ladies! In the case of a miracle, you might be able to dethrone Gaga.

No great comeback can occur without somebody else's downfall, so prepare yourself to say goodbye to Chromeo, Sia, Amerie and Jay Sean. They tried their best to stay in the running, but now their time is up! At least they got a chance. Vampire Weekend and Daisy Dares You both made unsuccessful attempts of breaking onto the charts during our Wild Card round, while hip-hop superstar Jay-Z failed to pump a second song into the mix. Don't cry too hard for our losers…

If you're new to the Weekly Top Ten, get ready for our initiation process. It's kind of like the one Chasen Hart went through in military school. Just kidding! These are the rules. Each week you'll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three moving to the next week. From those results, we'll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we saved and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week's charts.

So what do you have to do to get your favorite song on the list? Well, what would you do for a Klondike Bar? Take that and incorporate oral sex, and you're probably on the right path. Or you could just leave a comment with your suggestion. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if it gets us gyrating in our desk chairs… you might see it here next week!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance (LW – 1): When will we get bored of "Bad Romance" and move on to something else? Never! Well, maybe we'll forget about it when the video for "Telephone" drops later this month. I bet it'll be a million times better than what her and Beyonce did for "Video Phone"
  2. Dangerous Muse – I Want It All (LW – 2): Dangerous Muse just may be the new Robbie Williams. With the combined powers of sex appeal and a hot song, they're currently the only threat to Lady Gaga's week-after-week hold on the top spot. Can they make it to number one?
  3. Ke$ha – Tik Tok (LW – 6): Ke$ha's new album has been met with mixed reviews, but that can't stop "Tik Tok" from dominating the airwaves. If you're not sick of it yet, you probably will be soon. For now? Let's just get drunk and dance to this shit. The party don't start 'til I walk in!
  4. Janet Jackson – Make Me (LW – 7): I haven't ever heard this song on the radio, which makes me think that I need to start finding new radio stations to listen to. It's so good! If this is any indication of what Janet's upcoming album will sound like, I'll be the first in line to buy it.
  5. Jay-Z f/ Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind (LW – 9): Surprise! Jay-Z may have been defeated by douchey electro-rockers 3OH!3 when he first competed in the Wild Card round, but he skipped it altogether last week and gained a spot in the top five. It's never too late to make a comeback.
  6. Marina and The Diamonds – Hollywood (LW – 5): Sorry, Jay Sean! Your song is pretty good, but even your extreme hotness and slight lead couldn't stop me from saving Marina Diamandis. Her unique delivery and Shakira references are just too good. Hopefully, she'll be able to stick around for another week or two!
  7. Roisin Murphy – Momma's Place (DEBUT): If it wouldn't infuriate most of you, I would zap this song to the number one spot. Roisin's really turned it out for her second single from her upcoming album, churning out the perfect balance between rocker chick vocals and '90s dance jam beats.
  8. Alphabeat – Hole In My Heart (WILD CARD): You guys must really like Alphabeat! Their video was blocked from YouTube at some point last night, and they still maintained a decent lead for the Wild Card slot. Can this Danish pop sextet keep up the momentum?
  9. Florence + The Machine – Hurricane Drunk (DEBUT): Even though you've shown an insane amount of love for Florence Welch in the past, I still think this may be one of this week's underdogs. Fans of epic pop unite! We'll have to work extra hard to keep this one in the running. Florence's pipes can't do all of the work.
  10. The Saturdays – Ego (DEBUT): Commenter Jimmy T pretty much nailed my feelings on this UK import–"Could have been good… but when the song gets to what should be the 'hook' chorus, it just doesn't quite make it." But hey, I'm not that much of a hater. It still made it onto the charts! Let's just see how long it'll stick around.

  1. Gaga, Kesha and Jay-Z got my vote.
Yeah, maybe there should be a retirement system implemented into the Weekly Top Ten. Cause at this rate Gaga’s going to be #1 for a loong time what with the ‘Telephone’ clip dropping anytime and anything and everything else she releases after that.
When’s ‘Put It In A Love Song’ going to debut on this chart?! 😀 I’m kinda sad that Alicia Key’s ‘Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart’ never made the chart but aah well it had its chance in the wildcard round way back when.
    Go the Gaga!

  2. How about adding a throwback song? An oldie but goodie.
    or.
Alicia Keys w/ Beyonce “put it in a love song”
Robin Thicke w/ Nicki Minaj “shaking it for daddy”

  3. How ’bout Chicane’s “Hiding all the stars”. It’s upbeat and has great vocals. Hope to see it next week in the chart.

  4. How the hell did Chromeo leave the chart? I’m sorry, but “Night By Night” is one of the best songs of the last year.
I love “Hurricane Drunk,” and the more I play it the more I love it. Go Florence!!
