Weekly Top Ten: Kylie Ruins Gaga’s Retirement Party

After fifteen weeks on our Weekly Top Ten charts, Lady Gaga‘s “Alejandro” will finally be retired from the countdown. The song had a rocky run within our rankings, as it flipped back and forth with Kylie Minogue‘s “All The Lovers” for the number one spot. While Gaga reclaimed her lead for the past three weeks, she ends the competition in second place.

And who was the lucky lady who stole the top position? It was none other than Kylie Minogue, the eccentric diva’s greatest rival on the charts. This Monday, we’ll be announcing which of these two claimed the title of 2010 Song of Summer, so you’ll find out soon enough who’ll be getting the last laugh…

Speaking of laughing, you can now proceed to point and giggle at Kelly Rowland, Cee Lo Green, Sufjan Stevens and Katy Perry. These four attempted to make a break on last week‘s countdown, but they failed to receive enough votes to stay in the mix. We had to send them to the scrap heap along with Wild Card rejects Big Boi, Rah Digga and B.o.B.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, take a dip in my tub while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (LW – 7, W2): As if you couldn’t see this coming! Kylie’s music video for “Get Outta My Way” was hot as hell, and the song is one of the better selections on Aphrodite. Obviously, this was destined to hold the number one spot.
  2. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (LW – 1, W15): The little monsters were clearly on vacation, because Gaga has ended her fifteen-week run in second place. Will she release a new single soon and reclaim her rightful position on the charts? Stay tuned in to find out!
  3. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (LW – 2, W7): Katy’s finally stolen Eminem and Rihanna’s top rank on the Billboard charts, but she’s still not pushing ahead on our Weekly Top Ten. Perhaps “Teenage Dream” will have better luck now that “Peacock” has been eliminated from the competition.
  4. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 4, W4): For the past three weeks, this super-queer ensemble has been stuck in fourth place. Um, can we get some love for one of the gayest bands on the planet? Not to mention that Jake Shears is totally swoon-worthy…
  5. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (LW – 3, W13): Speaking of which, how jealous are you that Adam Lambert stuck his tongue down Jake Shears’ throat? Though the glamtastic singer previously implied he’s a top, it looks like he’s playing the bottom role in this situation.
  6. Shakira – Loca (LW – 9, W2): Although our loyalties usually lie with Kelly Rowland, we decided to utilize our “save” position for Shakira’s latest effort. The countdown could always use a little more Latin flavor, and this track definitely delivers in that respect!
  7. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (DEBUT): Some have called it a return to form, while others consider it a return to mediocrity. Wherever you stand, you’ve got to admit that Rihanna’s new single will get people to put down their drinks and shake their motherfuckin’ asses.
  8. Kanye West f/ Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj & Bon Iver – Monster (WILD CARD): We know we’re being awfully generous with this song’s rank, but its seriously one of the best hip-hop collaborations we’ve heard in ages! Nicki kills her verse, and we can’t stop laughing at Kanye’s “sarcophagus” lyric.
  9. Selena Gomez – A Year Without Rain (DEBUT): After reading more about this release, it’s becoming clear that this Disney Channel star legitimately enjoys performing dance music. This isn’t her catering to a gay audience. It’s her in her element, doing what she loves to do.
  10. Stromae – Alors on danse (DEBUT): Due to popular demand, we opted to give this European banger a chance. Does it deserve to be here? Or would you have preferred Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair”?

  1. Welcome to the chart – SELENA GOMEZ!!!!

Naturally and Round and Round are awesome dance hits and this new one is going to be even bigger. 🙂

Selena gets my vote along with Katy Perry and Adam Lamber.

  2. i would have preferred kat de luna’s push, push – spanish version

but clearly i’m being ignored 😉

“We listen to nearly every song you recommend”.

this is turning out into those empty naughty pics promises, that someone liked baiting people with lol.

  3. Loca has been stuck in my head since i heard it. I’m guessing it won’t do well. Everytime I like something from her it fails. Waka waka and hips don’t lie were horrible. I disliked them and america said yes!!! bad tastes

  4. Stromae, but not Willow Smith?!? “Whip my Hair” is fun and totally danceable. Love Selena Gomez, and I was afraid you’d written her off. Thanks for listening!

  5. Why didn’t Willow Smith get a debut but Selena fucking Gomez did? You barely mention her in post about Stromae and then throw her in again above. Just post the fucking song or don’t.

  6. Alex, I’ve mentioned or commented on a few and they’ve all turned up. Either is stands no chance or just isn’t very good. Either way, I got their backs here on the blog.

  7. Voted rihanna and kanye this week. That Rihanna song is gonna be a huge hit, it has a fun beat and flirty lyrics to match.

“Loud” is said to be alot more upbeat and pop friendly than her last album, which is a welcome relief. Rated r had potential but the singles could have been released in a different order. The public was expecting something more upbeat from her.

    Suggestions for wildcard:
    Fantasia-biittersweet
    Jazmine Sullivan-holding you down
    Chris Brown-deuces
    Drake-fancy
    Drake-miss me
Miguel ft J. Cole-all i want is you

  8. I voted for Kylie, Shakira and Stromae. Thanks for having songs with different sounds. Maybe to crank it up a notch, we could see here next week “Radioactive”, the new Kings of Leon single. Rock bands have not been very successful, but these guys are one of the best acts out there for the genre.

  9. I totally love that Stromae song and the one from Shakira. I still want to see “Lonely” by Medina in the Wild Card. The song by Kings of Leon is good, it has a bit of a gospel element to it.

  10. with all due respect T, if Katy Perry and Selena Gomez can be on this chart- then it really isn’t about good music.

  11. I’m so sick of the predictable crap on this list. Kylie, gaga etc.

Thank fuck for Monster, best rap song in a while. & awesome suggestions from af, especially jazmine sullivan.

& imo the willow smith song is awesome!! it’s funkier & more danceable than the entire top 5 put together!

  12. Hahaha…

I totally saw it coming. Kylie is back on top!!!

I actually had my very first gay clubbing experience this week, and it was going great, but I wasn’t quite feeling it… Until ‘Get Outta My Way’ came on… No joke, that is when the night went from great to amazing haha. It is definitely the best song on the album. Needless to say, I’ll be back at the club in no time!

  13. I want to suggest “Islands” by The xx. They are the winner of the Mercury Prize in the UK this year and it has given a lot of exposure and sales, plus they are one of Shakira’s favorite bands.

  14. Good point, Javier. Her place should be given to one of the new contenders and I suspect that is gonna be Selena Gomez. Just before Willow Smith rockets to #1 and knocks down Kylie with that masterpiece called “Whip my hair”, LOL.
