Weekly Top Ten: Is Gaga Back On Top?

Should we retire songs from our Weekly Top Ten after fifteen weeks on the countdown? While our current policy gives each entry up to twenty weeks, it seems like certain songs are becoming stale within this format. Not that we’re pointing any fingers…

This would also provide more space for people like Robyn, Janelle Monae, Linkin Park, Trey Songz and Donna Summer. They weren’t able to squeeze in with enough votes, so we sent them packing with Wild Card rejects Drake, MGMT and Example.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, stick this beer bottle up my butt while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (LW – 1, W13): We still don’t understand how anyone could claim that “Alejandro” should take a place as 2010’s Song of Summer. Even the most hardcore Gaga fans should recognize this wasn’t her best release from The Fame Monster. Alas, she’s on top again!
  2. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (LW – 2, W5): For a second, it seemed like Katy would steal the competition! Maybe her album release will lead to a boost in this song’s performance? We’d love to see a new number one on the charts, and this one screams “summer” from start to finish.
  3. Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (LW – 3, W15): This is Kylie’s fifteenth week on the countdown. As much as we still love this song, we’re starting to get annoyed about seeing in on the charts week after week. Should we ditch it and make room for her second single?
  4. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 7, W2): “Fire With Fire” may have struggled to find a place in our rankings, but this one had you captivated from the beginnning. Let’s see if this super-gay ensemble has what it takes to keep climbing the charts!
  5. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (LW – 4, W11): It’s been a while since Adam dipped this low, so we’re beginning to worry that this week may be his last. Want to prove us wrong? Be sure to get your votes in, and keep him in the game.
  6. Kris Allen – The Truth (DEBUT): As we mentioned in the original post, Kris Allen has gained more popularity on this blog for his bare chest than his actual music. However, he may be able to thrust ahead with the ol’ “Kradam” rivalry reignited. Can Kris steal his former competitor’s spot?
  7. Kelly Rowland – Forever And A Day (DEBUT): After commanding you to dance earlier this summer, Kelly’s back with another scorching club track. But is it too much of the same thing? That’s for you to decide, but we think it gets the job done.
  8. Cee Lo Green – Fuck You (WILD CARD): It’s a shame that the radio edit won’t do this one any justice! Cee Lo returns to the scene with a brand new solo album, complete with one of the best breakup songs we’ve heard in a long time.
  9. Armin Van Buuren Vs. Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Not Giving Up On Love (DEBUT): We passed on this track last week, offering up it’s well-deserved spot to Donna Summer. We’re not going to make the same mistake this time around! It’s too good to be ignored.
  10. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Home (DEBUT): Can this adorable indie track excel beyond its underdog status? Don’t hold your breath, but stranger things have happened.

  1. I’m happy to vote for Kylie whatever the single is! I do love the new one far more at the moment, so maybe it IS time to switch over? LOVE this Sophie Ellis Bextor track, too. Has been on repeat on my iPod since the single released this week. Gotta keep Adam around with my final vote.

  2. No, Kylie Minogue’s song should not be retired…if people are voting for it then people are voting for it, they obviously want it in. Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an AMAZING, beautiful song. Thank you for the shout out to it even if it doesn’t make it one week.

  3. Enough with Lady Gaga already! Jeesh! I like her and bought her records and played them to death, but let’s get something new already! How many more versions of “The Fame” are we going to get?

  4. I only voted for two this week: Adam Lambert and Katy Perry.

Alejandro is going to be long forgotten in the story of Lady Gaga’s catalog of great songs. It doesn’t come close to Bad Romance or Just Dance and it simply is not worthy of being at #1 for this long.

We’ve also given Kylie a long time for her to connect and cross-over with her new matierial, but face it guys, it isn’t happening once again. All the Lovers is good, but it’s nothing for the record books.

  5. I voted for Katy, Scissor Sisters and Armin Van Buuren vs Sophie Ellis Bextor. I love Kylie, but it’s time to bring her new single into the game. Besides, the video will be out in 2 weeks.

I also believe that “Wonderful Life” by Hurts and “You Lost Me” by Christina Aguilera deserve a second chance through the Wild Card. Let’s face it, summer is almost over and the title of song of the summer is down to Gaga and Kylie. Some of the songs that are here right now, will make it into the fall so it’s time to think long term. Just a thought.

  6. If it helps anyone’s Kris Allen obsession, he is REALLY short. Maybe you already knew…bug I didn’t! He was getting on a plane in front of me a few weeks ago. Looking back, he probably thought I was staring because I knew it was him, but I was really staring because I kept thinking “wow so cute but so short” THEN realized it was Kris.

New Katy song is bad. Just bad.

  7. I want Christina Aguilera’s “You lost me” back on the chart. Robyn could had stay longer. And please get “All the lovers” outta the chart and make room for Kylie’s new single.

  8. Kylie Minogue’s second single “Get Outta My Way” is absolutely amazing, and in my opinion, it’s the best song on the record.

Let’s just admit it, ok. “All the Lovers” is the song of summer based on this countdown, so retire the song and watch her next single soar!

  9. I voted for Armin Van Buuren, Katy Perry and Scissor Sisters.

Let’s do another second chance wild card and add to the competition Maroon 5’s “Misery” and Rihanna’s “Te Amo”.

There’s also the new Enrique Iglesias song with Nicole Scherzinger, “Hearbeat” if you guys want a new track.

  10. Songs on the Billboard Dance Charts usually peak at 12 weeks if they manage to stay on that long, very very few stay on that chart for 20. 12-15 weeks would be a better retirement period than 20

  11. So.. Kris is short…. And that affects his singing ability how? Or his sexiness?? I love short guys! But then.. I’m short.. Big whoop!

  12. So typical. Give a sparkle cow a poll to spam and guess who ends up winning it?

Yes, keep the meat fresh! Much like the Weekly Ten Naked Men post — one that Lambert will never be on, much less win — plse retire these tired old songs at 10 weeks that means get rid of Glambert and Gaga.

  13. I’d like to see Hurts back. Their single did debut thus week at #21 in the UK charts. They also have a track in their album called Devotion that features Kylie Minogue.
