Weekly Top Ten: Born This Way, HAAAAAY!

Doesn’t it seem like Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way” came out, like, ten years ago? We’ve read so much about it within the past week, and it’s almost baffling that it’s less than two weeks old. Without an official music video, the pop diva has rocketed to the top of our Weekly Top Ten countdown. We’re not very surprised by this development.

Alas, they can’t all be as lucky as Gaga! This week, we’re forced to say goodbye to Maroon 5, Sarah McLachlan, Garçon Garçon and (finally) Katy Perry. None of these artists received enough votes to stick with the competition, and we had to send them packing…

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, then lube up and bend over for Mick Roberts while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 7, W2): This one’s growing on us, but in a vaguely ironic “WTF” kind of way. But who cares what we think? The rest of the world is pretty damn obsessed with this. On its first week of release, “Born This Way” has debuted at the top spot on the Billboard charts, making history as their thousandth number one single.
  2. Pink – Fuckin’ Perfect (LW – 1, W5): Three weeks on top ain’t half bad! We knew Pink didn’t stand a chance against the Gagapocalypse, but she’s still holding on strong in second place. Doesn’t that make you want to hug someone and shout in their face that they’re fuckin’ perfect? Oh, maybe that’s just us…
  3. Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me (LW – 3, W6): The “Godney” brigade shot a collective load this past Thursday, after the premiere of this jam’s music video. Will the new clip help Britney get back in the game? Or will she continue to slip lower and lower on our charts?
  4. Rihanna – S&M (LW -2, W3): Ooh, gurl! Rihanna is facing heat from photographer David LaChappelle, who claims several “S&M” visual cues were directly lifted from his work.
  5. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 4, W11): Believe the hype. Adele’s sophomore album 21 is just as incredible as people are saying it is. We just got our promo copy earlier this week, and we highly recommend picking up a copy (like, actually buying it) when it hits US stores next Tuesday. “Rolling In The Deep” is just one of many highlights.
  6. Clare Maguire – The Last Dance (LW – 8, W2): What can we do to make you care about this song? We’re not above offering sexual favors, but we’d prefer if you just came around to it on your own.
  7. Mumford & Sons – The Cave (DEBUT): Thus begins our attempt to inject the charts with a little testosterone. And really attractive dudes. Marcus Mumford puts a tent in our boxers, and his music puts a metaphorical boner in our brains. While this may have come out a long time ago, we still think it deserves some recognition!
  8. Kahi – Come Back, You Bad Person (WILD CARD): Our Wild Card round was a surprisingly close race, and South-Korean pop star Kahi wound up winning by merely one vote. It’s nice to know that you were able to overcome the language barrier and embrace this beautiful dance track.
  9. Chris Young – Voices (WILD CARD): C’mon, you guys! He was only behind by one vote. We couldn’t completely dick over Chris Young. Of course, we could think of plenty of things we’d like to do with his dick. Seriously. We can’t handle this dude and his ridiculously cute smile. Charming doesn’t even begin to explain it.
  10. James Blake – The Wilhelm Scream (DEBUT): Yes, this is a bit of a long shot. This countdown hasn’t exactly been kind to slow, sparse and haunting in the past. Then again, we haven’t really given that style of music much of a chance. Can you see beyond the thump-thump beats and accept James Blake into your totally gay lives?

  1. Adele, Clare and Kahi for me. I love talented women that do something different than everyone else, or at least don’t SOUND like everyone else.

  2. So I finally realized I can vote for more that three….. 🙂

Katy Perry’s Firework is still the best song to hear anywhere, but since it’s not on the chart this week my votes went to Born This Way, Hold it Against Me, S&M, Rolling in the Deep and Voices.

Have we already tried to have Kelly Clarkson’s duet with Jason Aldean on this chart? Don’t You Wanna Stay is a great country-crossover hit.

  3. Thanks for keeping Clare Maguire for another week. Great song. I also voted for Adele, Britney, Gaga and Mumford & Sons. This is probably the first time I’ve seeing a very diverse group of songs here in a while.

Suggestion for next week is Adele’s new single “Someone like you”.

  4. omg yes! “somelike like you” is amazing! i mean everything adele does is stunning but that track is particularly awesome. bring it to the ten!!

  5. A rip of Madonna’s Express Yourself or not, Britney’s Hold it against me is still a better song than Born this way.

  6. Voted for Adele (MY Big Gay Anthem), Kahi, Miss Maguire and Mr. Dreamy (James Blake).

I’m happy for your attempt at bringing a couple dicks into the showdown, but if you want good folk-rock, I hope that when may comes around you’ll attempt to include Fleet Foxes! They’re releasing a new album, and they’re MUCH better writers than Mumford & Sons. Plus, Robin Pecknold is insanely hot. Marcus Mumford wishes!

  7. For James Blake all the way! I’ve listened to the whole album and his music is so out there and just goes all over the place…it’s hauntingly beautiful.

  8. finally got a good listen to britneys new song thought it was ok when i herard it the first time now it sounds like a leftover keisha track ouch

  9. Adele, Rihanna, Mumford & Sons, James Blake, Gaga and Clare Maguire. They are all different in many ways and I loved their singles. I also want the new Adele song in the countdown.

  10. I just LOVE how you always discourage Katy Perry. Makes me realize there are gay guys who will listen to music other than the top 40 or club music 🙂

I’m actually unsure of James Blake’s music. I’m thinking he’s overexposed and kind of overrated, but it’s too soon to judge.

Mumford & Sons suck. I hate them so much. They are a rip-off of Fleet Foxes.

What I’m looking forward to is the release of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” as a single! The remixes will be wonders and the video should be good, considering the subject matter of the song. I don’t think anyone but Robyn can make sure a mature, realistic-sounding break-up song, and no one can do electropop the way she does.

Rihanna’s (or Robyn’s) ear-bleeding “S&M” is gonna be huge, which makes you wonder why the wrong Robyn is famous.

  11. Adele is hot right now. It’s time she gets her new single here and please bring back Price Tag by Jessie J. You should do another one of your second chance Wild Cards.

  12. “Born This Way” is not only a horrible record and a terrible production but also, of course, a complete Madonna rip-off. There is nothing original about it and the fact that it rocketed to Number One is only testimony to the brain-washed mentality of the little sheep who follow that ugly drag queen. I actually liked many of the songs on her first album and purchased several on iTunes, but if “Born This Way” is an example of her follow-up music, it is clear she has already said all she has to say, and further, I think she has so pushed herself upon the American public in such an egotistical and self-congratulatory manner that she has already worn out her welcome. At least with me.

  13. Just thought I would share with you that this is my favorite thing that gets posted here on manhuntdaily. I actually look forward to this poll every week. 🙂

I appreciate how you try to find new music for us each week, and even though it doesn’t always catch on, it’s nice to be exposed to something new and different. It’s also nice to see some of my favorites stick around for many weeks in a row.

While it’s disappointing that when many of my favorites are given a chance, like Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson and Chris Young, they disappear after just one week, I am still glad that they at least had the opportunity to get some exposure.

I am also quite amused at how seriously some people take their own opinions about music. It’s funny how they take their Negative Nelly and Debbie Downer attitudes and subject the rest of us to their rantings. Laughing at them makes this weekly feature even more entertaining!

Keep up the great work and I’m already looking forward to next week’s chart!

  14. I’m kinda over the whole Gaga thing-show me something different. Adele rocks! Someone like you is an amazing song!

  15. Why are you letting that no talent hack on the survey? Arrives in an egg and it ends up on her face. She clearly has to rip everyone else off who came before her, and the style from “Missing Persons”. Really? And to say she was in it for 72 hours and no one around her found a hammer and some nails?
