Weekly Top Ten: Adele Rolls Into The Top Spot

Seven weeks ago, Adele rested comfortably at the top of our Weekly Top Ten charts with her hit single “Rolling In The Deep”. She then proceeded to get knocked back by a barrage of hard-hitting tracks from Britney Spears, Pink and Lady Gaga. Of course, none of them could hold her back in the long run! After thirteen weeks on the countdown, the UK songstress has managed to snatch back her crown.

It’s a bittersweet victory, considering we’re still forced to say goodbye to Jennifer Lopez, Beth Ditto, Radiohead and Mumford & Sons. None of their songs were able to acquire enough votes, so we had to send them all packing! Don’t cry too much over their losses. It’ll totally be okay.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, give James Franco‘s spandex-clad ass a spank or two while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 2, W13): Thirteen weeks! Can you believe it? When this song first came out, we weren’t even sure it’d last for more than one round. Thankfully, Adele has won you all over with her emotional vocals, incredible live performances and overall talent.
  2. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 1, W4): Strangely, this song gets bumped into second place after the debut of its music video. Was the manifesto of Mother Monster a total bust for some viewers? Or did it debut too late to boost Gaga’s votes on last week’s countdown? We’ll find out soon enough!
  3. Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me (LW – 3, W8): It just occurred to us that Britney had a prophetic vision while making this song. Here’s a line from the first verse–“Hate to stare, but you’re winning”. Um, did she just say “Winning”? It’s now clear that she’s single-handedly responsible for Charlie Sheen’s breakdown.
  4. Pink – Fuckin’ Perfect (LW – 4, W7): Want to know what’s fuckin’ perfect? This tweet from Ms. Alecia Moore, aka Pink. The pop underdog wrote, “Out of Myself, Britney, and Christina—didn’t everyone think I was gonna be the troublemaker? LOOK MA!!! No CUFFS!!” Damn girl, you just called them out…
  5. Rihanna – S&M (LW – 5, W5): Look, you guys! She may be bad, but she’s perfectly good at it. However, that doesn’t mean she’s still not on the brink of extinction. If you want to keep Rihanna around, you’re gonna have to vote a lot harder than this!
  6. Ke$ha – Blow (LW – 10, W2): Are you surprised? We are too! We would have never guessed in a million years that we’d be saving Ke$ha… And actually wanting to save Ke$ha! That’s the power of unicorns and James Van Der Beek.
  7. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (DEBUT): As far as we’re concerned, you could throw “Hold It Against Me” out of a window. This is the only Britney Spears single that matters right now. The chorus is so damn catchy that we’ll have it stuck in our heads for months. Months, we tell you!
  8. Adele – Someone Like You (DEBUT): Anyone up for a heartfelt ballad? Having already stolen the number one spot, Adele creeps in with another track from her excellent album, 21. Too beautiful for words. So we’re not even going to try explaining this one.
  9. Kanye West f/ Rihanna & Kid Cudi – All of The Lights (WILD CARD): Hip-hop hasn’t always fared well on our Weekly Top Ten, but Kanye West has been the exception to that rule on multiple occasions. This track is pretty fucking epic, and we’re not even going to bother listing all the additional artists who provided guest vocals. But it’s a whole lot of people.
  10. Kazaky – Love (DEBUT): Based on your reactions to previous posts, we honestly didn’t think you’d dig Ukrainian dance group Kazaky. It was a pleasant surprise to see all the positive comments about their music videos. Will you be voting for their latest single “Love”?

  1. Adele’s new song is just beyond awesome.
So much better than Rolling in the deep.

But still, I voted for both her songs.

    Same thing for Britney.
Hold it against me is still fresh and hot.
Till the world ends needs some love too.

And buy the way, I think J.Lo needs another chance.
The song has just started gaining the heat.
But there’s not enough room on the countdown for all the hot songs.

Dewitt, I think it’s time you extend the chart to Top 20. Top 10 is just a sad panda. And you get rid of nearly half the chart each week.

If it was top 15 old tracks + 5 new entries i think it would be much more entertaining for everyone. Just think about it. And we’d definitely have enough space for all the divas as well as other non-dive acts.

  2. How fun is this!!! Two votes for Adele! Two votes for Britney! And then still more for Lady Gaga and Rihanna. 🙂

If only you could have saved Jennifer Lopez my choices would have been complete!

  3. I actually agree with Nex for once!! Haha.

The countdown should be top 15 or top 20.

    What do u think guys?

Also, where is ET by Katy Perry?

  4. TOTALLY voted for Adele. That VOICE. And she writes all her own songs! Someone Like You could make almost anyone sit in a dark corner crying and clutching their blankie. Such an emotional, powerful song.

  5. Looks like Adele might as well score a double on our chart.

For the past 2 weeks she’s been occupying no.1 and no.2 positions on the UK album chart

A number 1 on the uk single chart (Someone like you) as well as another top 5 single (Rolling in the deep).

Not to mention she debuted at no.1 on Billboard 200 this week and been no.1 on the United World Chart for the last 5 weeks.

  6. I think it makes sense to have more songs in the countdown. Having to replace 4 out of 10 every week is just silly because the tracks don’t get to grow on people, specially those by non-divas like Jessie J or Clare Maguire who I still want to see back here. I voted for Adele’s songs and also for Rihanna, Kanye, Ke$ha and Pink.

  7. Why two songs from 2 artist?

That’s not a good idea. I mean, one of them will eventually lose power because of the other one. Why dont you let one to finish its 10 weeks AKA hold it againt me and then let Till the world ends?

Voted for Britney’s 2 songs either way 🙂

  8. If it was Top 20 then having 2 artists have 2 singles at once wouldn’t be a problem.

I also wanna see Jessie J back, but there’s literally no space for her.

  9. I love Adele and could easily see her being a multiple nominee for next year’s Grammys. I also voted for Britney’s songs and Gaga.

  10. I think J-Lo should come back as well.

gaga’s song is by far the best.

also like rihanna, kesha, and pink

  11. gaga’s song is a total rip-off, even though it’s a great rip-off, i still refuse voting for it because of that.

  12. Adele definitely has the best set of pipes, hands down. P!nk has a good set of lungs on her too.

  13. Gaga all the way. There really isnt anyone that comes close to her right now. Sure she may no longer be #1 on here, but this poll is not really that legit.

#1 on Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks in a row right now. #1 in 17 other countries. These achievements are based on sales and radio play. U can’t really say anything against that. Hate if u may, she and this song are LOVED by the masses of radio listeners and music buyers!
