Star Wars legend Billy Dee Williams identifies with both male and female pronouns

Billy Dee Williams revealed all in an interview with Esquire! Star Wars legend Billy Dee Williams, who plays intergalactic rogue Lando Calrissian, has revealed that he identifies with both male and female pronouns.

Describing the best way to be cool to Esquire, Billy said: “I never tried to be anything except myself. I think of myself as a relatively colourful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.

“And you see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”

And when told about how Donald Glover, who played a young Lando in Solo, has previously spoken about gender fluidity, Billy responded by saying: “Really? That kid is brilliant—just look at those videos.”

In the interview, Billy also revealed that his favourite acting moment was his Emmy-nominated performance in the 1971 film Brian’s Song, which told the story of the first interracial roommates, Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers, in the history of the NFL.

” It was a love story, really,” he explained. “Between two guys. Without sex. It ended up being a kind of breakthrough in terms of racial division.

Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise the iconic role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And last year, ahead of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it was revealed that the character identified as pansexual.

When asked in a HuffPost interview, Jonathan Kasden, one of the writers for Solo said: “There’s a fluidity to Donald [Glover] and Billy Dee’s [portrayal of Lando’s] sexuality. I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie.

“I think it’s time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of.”
