Random Question: Are You Okay With The Concept Of Gay Face?

Chace Crawford- Gay Face
How do you react when someone says another individual has "gay face"? While I'm not about to break out the picket signs, I find the concept to be mildly offensive. Just because someone has slightly feminine features or expresses emotion with their facial muscles, they're deemed to look homosexual? Even worse, this is largely considered to be negative.

But is there any truth to it? Do gay males actually have faces that differ so much from straight men that we need a word to describe it? Or is this all just some terrible construction of societal homophobia?

  1. I’m fine with the concept because there usually is some truth in it. Not all gays have gay face, but most people with gay face are gay.

  2. OMG I was just thinking/wondering about this. At first I thought it made sense. But I think that this works only retrospectively. Once we know someone is gay (through their mannerisms or speech or clothing or whatever), we try to find something in the way that they look.
Simple Research Proposal: Have 1000 (500 gay, 500 straight) people wear the same thing and make the same expression and take pics of them. Show those pictures to a bunch of people and have them judge whether the face is of a gay or straight man.

  3. you should check out this link to an article about research that proves that people can give a better than random correct guess about a person’s sexual orientation just from looking at their face. Interesting!!!

  4. Oh yes, I’ve always claimed there is a “gay face”. It’s not about looking feminine, per se. It’s more about the shape of the mouth, especially the corners of the mouth, and something about the eyes. Look at Nathan Lane’s mouth and Clay Aiken’s eyes. Like Jordan said, not all gay men have the gay face, but most men with the gay face are gay – That has been my experience in real life.

  5. of course there is a gay face, however the use of the word defines whether it is offensive or not.
that gay face is disgisting = offensive
im so gonna fuck him, hes not straigh, he has a gay face = fantastic

  6. Lol! Ive talked about it with my friends but seem to be the only one who notices it.
Some guys do have strong effeminet features, i think it has something to do with mind and body, but i get alittle to in depth with discussion to fit here lol

  7. There have been many guys who I could tell were gay just by looking at there face. Like others have said not every gay guy has gay face.
