Luke Evans Joins Action-Thriller ‘Echo 3,’ as Ex-Military Man

Luke Evans never stops working. The Hollywood hunk has added another project to his roster with Echo 3, an upcoming action-thriller drama series for Apple. Deadline reports that Oscar winning screenwriter Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) will write the series.

Echo 3 follows Amber Chesborough, a “brilliant young scientist who is the emotional center of a small American family” who goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border. Her brother and husband, who both have “complicated pasts” and military experience, “struggle to find her in a layered, personal drama, set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war.” Evans is set to play Amber’s brother, whose name is Bambi.

The series will have 10 episodes and is based on the Israeli show When Heroes Fly, created by Omri Givon and inspired by a novel by Amir Gutfreund. Echo 3 was given a straight-to-series order from Apple last July, and will be shot with both English and Spanish dialogue.

This is one of several projects Evans currently has in the fire. He’s set to play The Coachman, the villain in Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming live action Pinocchio. Tom Hanks is set to play Geppetto in the project which is reportedly to debut on Disney+.

Evans is also getting a six-episode series on Disney+ focusing on his Beauty and The Beast character Gaston, and LeFou as played by Josh Gad. The series is titled The Little Town and will focus on the two friends as they become the characters we know. LeFou was gay in the film, and we’re excited to see if that will be explored in the series.

He also recently finished filming a lead role in Hulu’s upcoming limited series Nine Perfect Strangers, which also stars Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman. Based on a novel by the bestselling author of Big Little LiesNine Perfect Strangers follows a group of strangers who go to a “mind and body total transformation retreat.” The series, which also stars Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale, Regina Hall, Manny Jacinto, and Samara Weaving, will be released on Hulu this year.
