Kim Petras: The World’s Youngest Transexual

Kim Petras

German Pop singer Kim Petras, born as Tim, is the world's youngest transexual after a recent sex change operation. She first began hormone replacement therapy at age 12 as part of her gender transition. She's now 16 and has completed all surgery necessary to become a woman. German law typically prevents sex change operations before age 18, but Petras convinced a doctor that she knew exactly what she was doing, and waiting 2 years would not change her mind.

Post-op Kim is thrilled with the change, "Everything has changed because of this operation. I just can't wait to put on my favorite bathing suit and go swimming like I've never done before. I had to wait until my 16th birthday but once that was past I was able legally to have the operation. I know that because of my past people will always bring up the subject, I can't get away from it. But I hope that one day I might be better known for something else like my music."

Kim signed to Joyce Records last year and released her first single online. It's called "Last Forever" and was an instant hit on MySpace and YouTube. Her first commercial single "Fade Away" was released just weeks before her final transition to becoming a female.

Congratulations, Kim! She's a very brave young woman. I wish her the best of luck with her music career. But what do others think about having surgery at such a young age, should there be a limit?

  1. Tranny or not, this song is musically very bad. Keeping voice correction on for the whole song is basically like saying “Yea, i can’t sing in key or hold a note”
I’m being completely honest and unbiased.

  2. ok, im all for being who you really are. but at 12, i thought i was wonderwoman or batgirl, so yes there should be legal limits on the age of consent AND they need to be stuck to. especially for such life altering decisions.
whats next, sex change at birth? we wanted a girl so…………….
ps, I AM A BIG OL DRAG QUEEN HONEY, SO DONT GO ALL CRACK HO ON ME! I REALLY MEAN WHAT I SAID ABOUT BEING WHO YOU ARE. JUST MAKE SURE IT’S ALL THERE MENTALLY. STABILITY IS A WONDERFUL THING KIDDIES!

  3. haha @ eitri, totatally agree, with both comments actually. The music sucks, and 12 is too young, 16-18 seems like a good age…

  4. Eitri, girl shut the fuck up bitch, you are only mad because all you can be is a fucking got damn DRAG Queen. She knew exactly what she was just like a bunch of you queens knew that you would be into sucking dick, so what’s the difference? Riddle me that Miss Eitri. She’s a beautiful young girl and you ugly tired Drag Queens can not take her.

  5. remember all those songs sung by little boys that when you listen to you think “is that a boy or a girl?”
it feels like i should ask that question but right now her gender is just so massively publicized it just isn’t a proper question anymore… >.>

  6. the sad thing is, trans gender issues are popping up at younger and younger ages. they know it as young as 5 or 6 that they are not comfortable in their own skin. i think, however, that if she is psychologically evaluated, tested with hormones, and its proven to elevate her mood/balance her body ((there is a lot more to it than ‘just bending your gender’ there is so much more)), then i say yes, take them at 12 if that is what you are really ready for. i know some transgender men and women that would be very jealous. to start at that age. she can skip male puberty and be as feminine as any genuine girl. i say kudos to her, stay strong, stay true to yourself, and keep rockin your art

  7. Ah, people, this is GERMANY we’re talking about, not the sacro-saint catholics of Montreal or the Southern US religious clique. Just chill.
I knew I was gay in the 1st Grade, at age 6 !!! So what’s wrong with doing this early? If those doctors said yes to proceed, they had good reasons. Plus, the younger the better: recovery, adaptation, etc.
I say : KUDOS TO YOU GIRL, and now, get out there and SING BABY!

  8. As a transguy, I would have given anything to have transtioned that age. It would have been wonderful to go through the proper puberty, instead of suffering through female puberty and spending eight years in an almost constantly suicidal state. I think that the age guidelines need to be flexible, so that if multiple professionals along with the child and family are sure the child is trans, he or she can be spared the torture of puberty in the wrong body and the resultant “fixes”. In the long run, it would have been so much simpler to have me develop as male from the get go than wait until I was an adult to undo the “female” changes and then make my body male. I congratulate Kim on her courage, and wish her all the success in the world!
