Kelly Clarkson: “People Like Us”

Kelly Clarkson‘s “People Like Us” follows in the footsteps of Pink‘s “Raise Your Glass” and Ke$ha‘s “We R Who We R” as yet another empowering pop anthem dedicated to the misfits, the misunderstood and, in Kelly’s own words, “the damned, the lost and forgotten”.

Sure, it’ll elicit minor pangs of déjà vu. (That spoken word intro is so “Born This Way“!).

Sure, we’ve been down this road far too many times. (Plastic bags!).

And sure! There was even that one moment where Clarkson ushered us into her Toyota Camry and drove us down that road herself. (Stand a little taller!)

When it all comes down to it, you’ve just got to accept that this is the third single from a greatest hits collection, not the defining moment in the American Idol alum’s musical career. It’s catchy, it works, the message is positive, and there’s literally no doubt that Top 40 radio will grab it, shave its butt and take it from every angle imaginable.

  1. Normally I’m a Kelly Clarkson fan and the song isn’t terrible, but all I can think is “been there, done that.”
