Is The Sassy Gay Friend Joke Getting Old?

When we last heard from Second City's "Sassy Gay Friend", I made a wild guess that the next Shakespeare tragedy he'd pop into would be Othello. And I was absolutely right. In the third installment of the series, the flamboyant darling stormed into the scene to rescue Desdemona from her husband's wrath.

There are a few funny moments in this clip, but I'm starting to wonder when this joke will stop being funny. What are they going to do after they run out of Shakespearian tragedies? If this sassy gay friend is so sensible, shouldn't he know that he can't show up in the same place three times wearing the same ugly, glittery orange scarf? I guess we'll find out in the next edition!

  1. Yeah, I kind of agree. It is getting old. I wonder what he’ll do when he gets to the Greek tragedies. His take on Oedipus Rex could be good. Oh, and I’d love to see what he does with Lysistrata (sp?).

  2. It’s totally formulaic at this point, but the “Why are you still in the bed line?!” was hilarious.
Maybe if they moved on from Shakespeare. “Rosemary’s Baby” with a Sassy Gay Friend could be all kinds of brilliant. Or…one big, awkward abortion joke.

  3. It’s kind getting old, but I’m still laughing, lol! “Wow, “Fake as hell”, he is black”, hahahahahahha!

  4. Getting old? Please, it’s the same stereotypical gay humor seen everywhere else. And frankly I think it’s a hoot and a half. Luckily Shakespeare’s leading ladies did some crazy shit, and they won’t run out of material anytime soon – keep ’em coming Second City!

  5. Yes please do lysistrata!!!!!!!! But no its hilarious the only reason i used to go to youtube was to listen to music and now its to watch this.
