Is Miley Cyrus Good For The Gay Cause?

For the record, I can't believe I'm writing this post either. It's even more surprising considering how often we've made fun of Miley Cyrus (not to mention those times we openly lusted after her ex-boyfriend). Now I'm not making any definitive statements, but could it be possible that the tween star is… ::gulp::… good for the LGBT community?

Miley shocked us by showing her support for marriage equality, and now she just tweeted a YouTube video that's full of flamboyant gay men. The enthusiastic Fire Island squad is seen lip-synching to her hit single "Party In The U.S.A." Love these guys or hate 'em, it's exciting to see a Christian pop singer from the Bible Belt embracing us with such open arms. I'll even forgive that she tweeted about booty-popping less than two hours later.

If you're convinced that Ms. Cyrus is the next gay icon, it's not too late to vote for her song on the MANHUNT Daily Song of Summer charts. Then again, I'm not even convinced she's completely on our side yet.

  1. LOL. Yep all those conservatives in DC and around the world are rethinking gay equality because M.C. likes a video featuring her song. She liked the video because that’s what singers do when they see fanmade shit like that. Not because suddenly she is an advocate for gays.

  2. I hate to break it to everyone… Ms Cyrus could care less bout THE GAY CAUSE… she knows that she is losing her popularity and she thinks that if she can get the GAY community to go gaga and support her she will have another 15 min. in the spotlight.
But she got egg on her face last year when she decided to hold her BIRTHDAY BASH @ Disneyland ( and her birthday wasnt for another month and half after the fact) the same weekend as GAY DAYS Anaheim.. and when told the weekend was already having an event, she threw a DIVA fit and basically told them that we should have to pick some other time we were nobody..

  3. Idk….it may seem like she is not doing an extreme amount for us, but in fact she kinda is without knowing it. Miley reaches millions of younger children across the world, which will one day be the future. Many of these children love and idolize her, by just saying she supports gay marriage that helps us. Many kids will say “hey Miley doesn’t care, why sould we?” On another note people who judge others and call them “flamboyant fags” without even knowing them sets us back. The newest thing in the gay world is to just attack eachother and blame Obama for not doing enough instead of making change happen and pushing congress, who are actually able to make change. When we use language like that we are only hurting ourselves and putting our cause down. It send the message that its okay to hate on gays, because look he’s gay and he hates on them too.

  4. Kind of annoys me when gays use the term fag to describe feminine gay men. News flash, don’t matter how butch or straight you think you are. Straight people still think your a fag, you suck cock, get over it.
I thought the video was funny. and hate to admit it,but i kind of like her new song haha.

  5. From Ricky Nelson to the Monkees to David Cassidy to NKOTB, all teen idols’ time at the top is short and then the fickle fans move on to the next new taste of the day. Miley has passed the half-way mark and is trying to reinvent herself while Disney has moved on to grooming the next herd of cash cows. Can’t blame her for trying to tap into a different market; the question to ask is whether or not we buy her sincerity.

  6. ehm, dont wanna get into the fight, but i think it won’t hurt if one more celebrity would speak favourably of the gay community. and as HHH4873 pointed out, she reaches out to teenagers who might just learn that ‘its ok’, unlike most adults that made up their minds.
answering your other question whether she could become a gay icon – hmm, i dont think so, in my opinion she just doesnt have it.. at least yet.
