Gay College Students Do It Better

Gay College Student

According to a new study, gay male college students have grade point averages that are about two percent higher than heterosexual male students at the same institutions. They're also said to be more motivated, more likely to volunteer and more likely to be mentored by a faculty member.
Before you start jumping to conclusions about that whole "mentoring" thing, take into consideration that bisexual women perform the worst in college and they have twice the professor to fuck!

  1. Not to sound to statistical, I am curious to know the standard deviation of this study to know how valid it is.

  2. LOL. Not to sound even more statistical, but “studies” do not have “standard deviations.”

  3. hey, AAA, yes, a study like that would involve standard deviations as well as various other stats like P values, Z tests, or confidence intervals. eye was right, the likely standard deviation of values like gpa, which are widely variable, is almost definitely more than 2 percent.

  4. I repeat, “studies” do not have “standard deviations.” A particular set of data might have a standard deviation. But the sentence “I am curious to know the standard deviation of this study” has no statistical meaning whatsoever. And if I offered Ben a number and said it was a standard deviation, it would allow him no inference about the “validity” of the study. (PS: I teach stats for a living.)

  5. Way when I got my undergrad degree at the University of Georgia Journalism School, many of the straight guys were just there to party. A large number of them quit by spring quarter or didn’t make it past their freshman or sophomore year. Gay guys knew a degree was their ticket out of their hometowns or living with your parents while in your 20s. Parents definitely put a crimp in your sex life, especially when you are young and horny.

  6. of course, like many studies about “gay” students, this is really a study about out gay students (after all, how else would they find them for the study?). and students who have decided to be out–and sign up for a study–in college are most likely more well-adjusted, more self-confident, more motivated, with some kind of effective support system. yep, they’re probably likelier to do better.

  7. @klb sounds like we’ve got some confounding variables going on there…
does being gay cause you to be a better student or do certain traits that us gays have make us better students?
