Drinking Sparkling Cider is So Gay

Four hot men prancing around shirtless and wet… I wonder who Heineken was targeting when they released this new ad for Proef Jillz Sparkling Cider? According to the ad agency, Pink and Poodle:

"[The commercial is] a total rethink of the human condition as it pertains to the gender wars. In advertising for men, seductive females are almost standard issue, whereas male eye candy for women is still somewhat taboo."

Hmmm… do they seriously think we'll believe that the ad was only meant for women? I'm sure a flock of "ladies" are buying cider as we speak. Hey Dewitt, pass me my cider!

  1. Andy I fail to see how just because you find them attractive the ad’s targeted towards gay men and not women. I guess next you’re going to say that any commercial featuring attractive males is geared towards gay men? It’s not about the four handsome shirtless men you say? Oh so I guess CoverGirl commercials target gay men too because putting on makeup is for women and traditionally associated with gay men?
Sometimes you guys just reach a little too damn far.

  2. Lol Gay but not offended.
I agree with your point there but wouldn’t the CoverGirl ads be targeted for men since the women in the commercials are so pretty?

  3. Gay but not offended,
Let’s see you have 4 shirtless guys who throughout the commercial don’t even interact with the ladies only with each other. You have a scene where cider is bursting out off the bottles. The guys are singing and dancing together…all in sync. Hmmm….

  4. I can deffinately see how this IS targeted at women. However, as an advertising and marketing proffessional, I do see a clear focus on gay men as well. If this ad was Only designed to appeal to women, and not both, then the creators of this advertisement did a poor job. Remember there are a lot of very suttle images being sent here. whether you notice it or not, it is very significant that it is the men who have the drink the whole time. It is portrayed as a part of men having fun together, in a very sexual way. There is no attempt to try to connect this product emotionally with women. I’f they really wanted to target women only, the men should have handed the product over to women in the add.

  5. Kinda like the diet coke commercial w/shirtless Lucky Vanous in 1990. It may have been targeted at women, but what gay man on the planet wouldn’t have appreciated it?

  6. Well, trixter, as an advertising professional, you should know that possession of the product means very little in many ads. When a nearly nude woman is the only person in the ad, it’s clearly aimed at those attracted to women, i.e. straight men (lesbians aren’t really a big consumer subgroup). There ARE women in this ad, and they are vocally appreciating the show on the bar. The fact that only attractive and shirtless men have the product is not necessarily implying that women shouldn’t have it. Furthermore, the song’s repeated line is “she’s rich, so exciting.” Yeah, that’ll make a gay man tremble.

  7. OMG!!!! I haven’t seen the name Lucky Vanous in years…juat saw his pic on imdb and he is still hot even at 48

  8. Well they’re of course going to go on with saying “she” and referring to women in the song. They wouldn’t completely go gay in the commercial unless it was focused on just logo or something of that nature. Also the men react to the guys dancing on the bar just as much as the women did… Personally I think it’s aimed toward women and gay men. They were pretty much frolicking in an orchard…
