After receiving a complaint from a female patron, a manager in Denny's told a transgender woman that she should use the men's bathroom until she was able to get sex reassignment surgery.
The good news? The trans woman filed a complaint to the Maine Human Rights Commission last year, and they recently ruled 3-2 in her favor. The bad news? There's a handful of ignorant comments posted on the original news item.
One commenter wrote, "Can't we just treat these people instead of giving into their disorder??? Same with homosexuals and pedophiles." Yes, there are still people out there who think like this.

People who accuse others of ignorance are often the most ignorant of all. There are several security arguments that could be made for not allowing a physical man into a womans restroom. What if some rapist decides he can just dress up as a woman to get into a womans bathroom and the employees cant say no because its his “right” to.

Jason do you know the difference between a transgender and a transvestite? look it up baby boy…how are you different comparing transgendered people to rapists than some comparing gays to pedophiles…I agree with you that sometimes things are not black or white but if a manager comes up to this person and says you cannot use the bathroom until you have sex change, that is very very ignorant bro…what? is the manager going to check it after? would he also want to feel it…you know what if he was clever he would send in an employee or ask for the person to wait for others to leave so he can have is privacy for his business….what we should get at is intolerance and just saying oh he is transgendered kick him out or treat him with disrespect…not cool

Try taking your own advice Jason. The fact that you essentially just quoted the Right Wing’s patented bigotry on this is proof enough that you didn’t think. There’s a big difference between living as a woman and simply dressing as one.
As to: “Yes, there are still people out there who think like this.” Yep. Far too many. Disturbingly there seem to be a great deal within the LGBTQ community as well.
When you have organizations such as NAMBLA touting the virtues of gay sex with minors, then the comparisons between homosexuality and pedophiles are going to get thrown into the gay community’s face. It’s a harsh generalization, and one which we could very well do without.
