Aural Only: Usher

Am I the only one who thinks Usher‘s latest single sounds like a simultaneous impression of Ke$ha‘s “Tik Tok” and Enrique Iglesias‘ “I Like It”? It’s like he went into the studio and demanded something that sounded exactly like every other song on the radio, hoping that it’d guarantee another number one hit.

Yet for all the crap I could talk about this song, the formula appears to be working quite well. The song’s been climbing the charts over the past couple of weeks, and it’s probably only a matter of time before he reaches the number one spot. But let’s be honest–will anyone remember this song after this summer?

  1. Umm dewitt I disagree, this sounds much like his style— I’m thinking circa Yeah, Caught Up and Love in this Club. They’re crossover RNB POP tracks IMO

  2. I agree with you Dewitt that you could throw this song i the same category with the same songs that you mentioned. However, Usher has been turning out clubs hits way before a lot of these artist and while it’s a little more upbeat than some of his former club hits. As far as remembering it after some time, I think it specifically was put together for a summer hit, so I don’t think it matters. As long as we enjoy it now.

  3. I agree with Dewitt, it sounds like a techno, house music that I never really liked. But is that the new fad in music. I mean check out Ne-Yo’s Beautiful Monster. I never think that I’d like that style of beat, but I love both these songs. Now Kesha, she just needs to go back home with her talentless butt!

  4. What album is this song on? It’s not on Raymond v. Raymond. I have that album, great album btw!

  5. It’s gonna be on the deluxe version of Raymond V. Raymond. 4 or 5 bonus tracks/remixes on the new one. You should expect it in a couple of weeks.

  6. @Need New
Its on his newest upcoming album called Versus it’s like an appendum to Raymond V Raymond and only has nine tracks!!!

  7. “Versus”…an addendum (that’s the correct word, I believe)to “Raymond V Raymond”??? So he’s copying Lady Gaga too. And I also agree, that this record does sound like everything else on the pop charts right now. Pretty generic, boring music.

  8. sorry hehe addendum is the correct word. Also I don’t believe he’s copying GaGa as many artists are now packaging and reselling (with bonus tracks) their albums. It seems like more of a marketing ploy to generate revenue since the industry is floundering at selling albums! Either way most likely I’ll buy it as there are very few good artists putting out music anymore. IMO

  9. He re released his “Confessions” cd and I don’t think Gaga was around at the time. Usually this site eats up dance shit like this but now all of a sudden the music palate around here is above Usher but not Enrique?

  10. I can’t be bothered to listen to Usher’s music when he’s so butt ugly he could inhale footlong wieners up his nostrils.
