Aural Only: Nas & Damian Marley

Hey, guess what? There are gay men out there who listen to hip-hop. I know this idea may be shocking to some of you–especially those of you who claim “rap isn’t real music”–but I assure you that this it’s one-hundred percent true. Our tastes as a community run beyond the types of songs that succeed on our Weekly Top Ten.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley‘s latest single “As We Enter”. The music video just popped out, so it’ll hopefully give their Distant Relatives collaboration album some well-deserved attention. What do you think of this one? Does it have any potential to become a song of the summer?

  1. big bluckin tune unna kno!

they’ve been talking about doing a collaborative album for awhile and it’s nice that it’s out for all to enjoy. good choice for a first single too…

with the nas/kelis marriage i personally thought it was going to produce years and years of hot albums between the two of them, but all we got were “blindfold me” and “expletive” tshirts at the Grammys…

i like hip-hop/rap, not sure why someone wouldn’t… snoop in the 90s, kanye’s “late registration” album, lil wayne right now, that’s really hot music!

  2. Most of the guys on here don’t know shit about music unless they heard it in the club. I like dance music as much as the next person but damn, does anyone listen to hip hop or rock, or anything else?

  3. hip-hop/rap are the music of the people. it’s the story of growing up black and male in a society that constantly tries to beat down on you.

middleclass white gay men can’t relate to the sex talk or the hardcore street stuff, but there is soo much more to rap music than that.

ya’ll do like drugs though, you can relate to the drug talk haha
