When it comes to Maroon 5, it’s been said that you either love them or hate ’em. Though I happen to fall into the latter category, I’m more than willing to admit that ninety-percent of gay men disagree with me on the band’s general shittiness. And I don’t blame them.
After all, lead singer Adam Levine is one sexy-ass motherfucker. It doesn’t even turn me off that he seems to smugly acknowledge his own hotness, because I’d do the same thing if I oozed that much sex appeal. Seriously, guys… have you watched the band’s new music video for “Misery”? I’ve never been into the whole S&M scene, but this video may have changed my mind.

Like the song, like the video (except for the knife in the back of the passer-by guy, which is a little too real among the rest of the over-the-top violence), and I’ve always thought Adam was a total hottie, even if he usually comes off as something of a douchebag/egomaniac. Wish they’d had some shirtless shots here. And I do agree with JD, if the roles were reversed here, Gloria Allred would be suing somebody pronto!

Come on, people. This video doesn’t say “woman beating man is acceptable”. It’s humor, symbolism and dramatization. And why is society so much more sensitive to the portraying of man-on-woman violence than the reverse? Because man-on-woman violence is so much bigger a problem than woman-on-man violence. Not to say the latter doesn’t happen, it’s just not nearly as widespread. It’s just like: We are much more sensitive and reactive to homophobia than “heterophobia”, not because the latter is OK, but because the former is such a prevalent problem in our society.
I don’t get what all the fuss is about Adam. Maybe I am the only one who is turned off by his personality. Eventually that body is gonna fail him with old age and he’ll have nothing left but his bad music and no personality.
the song was mediocre at best, and the video was objectionable because it glorified violence in relationship. It wasn’t “S&M”, (hint — not much opportunity to use you safe word when you’re being clotheslined off a motorcycle) it was simply violence as a substitute for sex.
As someone who does a fair amount of s&m, what’s going on in this video is definitely not s&m; it’s abuse (perhaps rendered palatable by it clearly being humorous). Real s&m involves inflicting erotic pain, not injury; it takes skill, know-how, and safety precautions, none of which is demonstrated in this video.

I’m generally a fan of their music, but that song isn’t hitting on much [no pun]. Chris Brown hits someone and it’s a federal case, some flat-arsed bitch does it and it’s cute? no thanks… Not into seeing anyone being hurt or abused especially when it’s supposed to be funny… what self-respecting man would let a woman do that to him or let himself be portrayed like that in a video?
