Aural Only: Kimbra

If you even dare to compare Kimbra to Lady Gaga, it’s quite likely that I’ll jizz in your eyes. Yes, both of them. This upcoming songstress has absolutely nothing in common with the “Bad Romance” diva. And if we’re being entirely honest, her music is much more complex and… well, legitimately good.

Kimbra draws influence from artists such as Nina Simone and Bjork, as she puts a modern twist to jazz pop and neo-soul. Her debut single “Settle Down” was produced by the eclectic team of Francois Tetaz (Architecture in Helsinki, Gotye) and M-Phazes (Amerie, Pharaohe Monch). Pair that with an utterly beautiful music video, and you’ve got the perfect equation for a sleeper indie hit.

  2. Interesting song and video. Why burn the dolls? The choruses sound like “The Chipmunks”. Pass.

  3. Loving the song a ton, but I also can’t find anywhere to download this, legally or otherwise. Looking forward to her album coming out!

  4. So I was surprised with how much i LOVED this song, but i can’t find it anywhere online for download or purchase? anyone have any ideas where i can buy or DL this song?

  5. The way she pronounces her “s” with a “sh” reminds me of Carol Channing….but there’s nothing wrong with that! Very unique and a fantastic video. Love it.
