Right before the end of the year, there’s always an awkward lull on the music scene. The big names in pop, such as Britney and Gaga, have spent their time preparing for big debuts in 2011. And everyone else who matters? They dropped their major singles prior to Christmas day, hoping to cash in on the holiday spirit.
Due to this phenomenon, I couldn’t even think of four decent choices for the Weekly Top Ten‘s Wild Card round. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to call attention to a few underdogs and lesser-known artists. I’m going to kick things off with Estonian pop star Kerli, but feel free to chime in with suggestions for tomorrow’s post in the comments section…
Ever since her debut single “Walking In Air”, I’ve considered Kerli one of my primary guilty pleasures. Her “bubble-goth” style is the embodiment of every Hot Topic store in existence. Yet despite my urges to pretend I’m above crap like this, I find myself oddly drawn to her. Is this something I shouldn’t be admitting to all of you? Eh, whatever! Take a listen to her latest song “Army of Love”, and just be glad we chose this over Johnny Weir‘s new single.

I’m not sure how I feel about this, it’s a lot dancier than anything off her last cd. It comes off almost like a different artist.

I think you should put one of Ke$ha’s better songs on the Wild Card like “The Harold Song” or “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes”. I can’t believe you guys shit all over her while posting crap like this Estonian girl.

Lady Gaga couldn’t sound that good, or sing live from her bedroom, if she wanted. Ms. Caca sounds congested when she sings anyways, sounds like a pig to me. Tell me anything from the link that reminds you of Caca in that video. And don’t say hair, because Kerli had her blonde hair forever longer than Gaga had, after all, it’s her natural color. Kerli has also been songwriting, producing, composing, and singing her music longer than Caca, none of which she can do. MOVE THE FUCK OVA MR.CACA!!

Howzabout you at least give Nicki Minaj a chance on here? “I’m the Best” off of Pink Friday would be an excellent choice. 😀 PS hate this song. Walking on Air was wayyyy better.
