Aural Only: Kelly Clarkson

The third single from Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted is "Already Gone", a song produced by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. While a few critics have pointed out the blatant similarities between this track and Beyonce's "Halo", Clarkson's fans have adamantly defended the song's originality. Well, guess what? Even Kelly has recognized the connection.

“I’d never heard of a song called 'Halo',” Clarkson told CBC News. “Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No-one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you do that?’”

Out of respect for Ms. Fierce, Clarkson fought her label to not release the single. You can obviously see how that worked out for her. It's upsetting to see such a talented artist constantly entangled in label politics, but at least she's upfront enough to call them out on their "shitty" moves. Who ever doubted this girl's diva status?

  1. duh, so Halo.
funny situation though. Tedder promised Halo to Leona Lewis, but she took long to work on a new album, so he gave it to Beyonce.
Now we discover that he made ‘a remix’ that he gave to Kelly.
I wonder if he made another ‘remix’ for Leona as well…

  2. aren’t both songs also very similar to every OneRepublic song anyway? kind of breathy lyrics followed by sweeping and drawn-out… stop and staaaaaaaaare. It’s toooooooo late to apologize. Halooooooooooo. i want to knoooooooooooow.

  3. that was kind of my point. whether he is making songs for his band or others, they all sound the same.

  4. I think the main difference is Kelly actually does something with the song instead of trying to sing over it.

  5. I love this song, yeah it’s similar to Halo, but everything Tedder makes sounds the same (Jordin Sparks – Battlefield). This is my favorite song off of All I Ever Wanted and I hope it does well.
And Kelly Clarkson is the most deserving Diva of this years girls.
