Aural Only: Kanye West

If I were ranking my top songs of 2010, Kanye West‘s “Monster” would appear somewhere towards the top of my list. Say what you want to say about ol’ Yeezy, but this song never fails to get my adrenaline pumping. And that last verse by Nicki Minaj? It single-handedly makes up for her horribly misdirected Pink Friday project.

A rough cut of the video leaked last week, cuing the song’s potential return to our Weekly Top Ten. Speaking of which, this week’s round got posted a few days later due to scheduling problems, so don’t forget to head over here and vote before it’s too late! Also: Penis.

  1. Every person, who ever thought Kanye, Jay-Z, or any other rapper who’s attained mainstream success, was part of the Illuminati will lose their minds over Mr. West’s latest video. I really enjoyed it, by far one of the best rap music videos in a long time.

  2. Kaye is hot, got talent and he is very confident on what he does or say, don’t hate him because he is good. Just listen to his lyrics and you can see that someone put some thoughts and time to write it. It is not like cookie cutter rap which is widespread like a disease on every radio station, he is very genuine and he is not afraid to speak up his mind.

I would marry this guy on the spot, even if it means the whole world will fall, but I would care a damn.

Keep it up Mr West, there are too many haters in this world.

  3. not interested in the song at all – sounds like crap
but kanye’s chest is looking great

  4. Can we please put West where he belongs. In the same cage with Perez Hilton and Chris Brown. Cult following is no excuse for for any of thier anti social behavior.

  5. @Not Enough; I suggest you seek some mental health counseling too. If you are a black U.S, citizen, you are an embarrassment to blacks in America. I don’t listen to this garbage. Kayne stuck his foot in his ass by saying George Bush to care about black people. I am not a George Bush fan, but Kayne was wrong for making this staement on a national televised marathon.

  6. Pretty funny. Kanye West can use the “N” word a thousand times in this video, but when I tried to write a review here suggesting that he personally epitomizes the word itself, I get censored! This guy is a disgrace to all humanity, and especially to Black men.

  7. @BlackMan
It is my assumption that you may have personal issues with Mr West. You can’t hold Kanye accountable indefinitely for the few incidents in his life. Everyone makes mistake, so as George Bush, Obama, Clintons, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Matt Damon, Glen Beck, YOU and I. Should anyone hate indefinitely you for few of you mistakes?

I think your argument is based on pure emotions. I love anyone regardless of their gender, race or religion. I tend to appreciate the human factor in them and what positives [they] contribute to the world. So if I like Kanye it is about what he contributes to the world. He has a lot of inspiration towards social activism.

After all I didn’t reveal my race when I posted the comment. Just for clarification, I am black and Proud to be Black (and human too). So should I post my profile link too?

  8. they get all this praise for being perfectionists and their attention to detail.
they spent all this money on this video and when they edited it, they decided to use a lot of the close up of his mouth with the grill covering his bottom teeth. no problem, that’s fine (even though they’re totally tired, so 2003)…but if you insist on doing it…THEN MAKE SURE WE DON’T HAVE TO LOOK AT THE GUM OR THE GLOB OF ADHESIVE THAT IS HOLDING IT IN PLACE PLEASE! it’s there between the grill and his teeth, sticking up above the grill on the right side (his left). come on guys.
not to mention the video kind of makes me feel sick inside…which is creepy. i know it’s supposed to be dark and scary (hence the title) but the 2 dead girls in bed being posed is “serial killer” creepy. it feels so hopeless, yep, that is the perfect word…creepy is okay, scary is too, but no one likes to feel hopeless, it’s where really bad things originate i believe.
anyway…ya’ll need to pay more attention to detail, especially when you use that bit of detail as a central portion of the video.
re: the nickyi minaj disk being horribly misdirected…it is really bad, huh? i wanted to love it and tried so hard to. i played to it over and over and made everyone who climbed in my ride listen to it also. NO ONE liked it. i loved the 2nd track but everything else is just shit. as she says so eloquently she “just shitted on it”. ON TOP OF THAT she’s trying to tell lil kim this is how it’s done? she better watch her ass (that should keep her real busy, it would definitely be a full time job). queen B would never release this pop bullshit. it’s not even good pop.

  9. OMG…i hadn’t even finished watching the video when i commented before. the grill was still bugging the shit outta me but yikes with that minaj moment. i get what dewitt was saying about it making up for pink friday. she is letting us have it, but please tell me she’s not still shit-talking lil kim with “lemme get this straight, wait, i’m the rookie, but my features and my shows 10 times your pay, 50 K for a verse no album out”.
kim is gonna come out of a bag on miss minaj if she aint careful. i hope she hits her with a hard-ass, ghetto, gangster rap disk that climbs and sits on the charts and shows this mouthy bitch how to really do it. that’s assuming this isn’t all a publicity stunt anyway. i wouldn’t doubt it if kim has a list of who took little nicki under their wings (and their sheets no doubt). so i’d keep checkin behind me if i was any one of y’all. well, nicki still might not see her back there if she does look. she could be just behind that ass.

  10. @JimmyT; you make a good point regarding the use of the N word. I hear blacks using it all the time. Sometimes, I am gulity of using the word too. I’ve never thought of Rap as music. It might be some form of artistic expression, but it’s not music. Luther VanDross music was real music. The same goes for Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Jon Bon Jovi, Diana Ross, Jill Scott, etc.

  11. @NotEnough: I don’t have any personal issues with Kayne West. The man has proven himself to be an idiot.

  12. Who hasn’t proven to be an idiot?? We are all humans and from time to time we end up acting out of norm. That is part of being human. We all go through experiences and learn from it. Nobody is perfect in this world, so let treat everyone the same and not picking who we should compromise and who we should crucify.

  13. WHY does MH even bother posting Kanye or any hip hop for that matter? lol. It’s just funny because a majority on the site doesn’t like him or rap. Let it go.

  14. Monster was out before Pink Friday, and Kim already responded after “Romans Revenge'” on a song called Black Friday, youtube it.

  15. This is terrible. Why would anyone pay to listen to this? The video is just sensationalist tripe to try to make people talk about a song that is just plain bad

  16. ok so i dont get why people have to jerk offs and complain, I have a huge range on music on my ipod and kanye is something i like. His album is pretty good, just cuz its not your typical style of music doesnt mean you have to hate on it….i like some of the songs here on aural only….but i dont go bashing and hating on the ones i dislike. seriously guys grow up

  18. yes he may be an idiot but i like millions of other people looks past it and see good music

  20. …Lil Kim already came back with a diss track towards Nicki Minaj. It’s called “black friday” and it’s horrible.

  21. The only real questions is why is this on a gay porn blog. Here are my top 10 answers:
    10. If you look real carefully that thing on his mouth says insert cock here.
    9. West has two girls in his bed and they are bored to death.
    8. Lots of hanging meat at the beginning of the video.
    7. Drag queens in pink wigs.
    6. West gives good head.
    5. Two words: Big Heels
    4. Jay-z makes you hope that Beyoncee will be in it.
    3. Jay-z screaming LOVE is the gayest thing ever.
    2. No rhyming Shri Lanka and Willi Wanka is the gayest thing every.
But the #1 reason this video is on a gayporn blog is gays love big dicks and Mr. West is a really big dick.

  23. 1) Lil Kim needs to give it up. She had her time, now let this bitch have hers. 2) Everyone thinks Lil Kim can still show people “how to do it…” wrong. Lil Kim was big in a different era of rap. Its evolved way beyond that today. Even if she did pop an album out it wouldn’t go anywhere nowadays. C’mon.

  24. 2 quick points.

    1. Not everyone enjoys rap and I totally get that but there is no reason to bash a form of music that has provided more cultural references in the last 30 years than any one single form of expression. In addition Rap music has done more to bridge racial/social/generational divides in this country (and for that matter globally) than any civil rights movement has. Not sure about it look up bling (It’s in Webster’s Dictionary) a term started by and used by rappers or check out how diverse a Hip Hop concert is.

    2. Kanye West – love him or hate him – does not shield his emotions or restrict himself in any way shape or form. He allows himself to be 100% free at any given time. I thought every HUMAN on the planet was given a mouth to express themselves. We as an LGBT community should support artists like him that promote individuality instead of calling him an idiot/asshole/douchebag etc… (Plus the rumors are that he may very well be one of us)

PS. The negativity on this site in general is getting to be ridiculous. IF YOU DON”T HAVE SOMETHING NICE/POSITIVE TO SAY THEN SAY NOTHING AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT POSTING!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Reading the RAAAAGE from aging queens on Manhunt about hip-hop music is fucking hysterical, please keep it up. Because you’re totally right, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, and the slew of pornstars who put out pop songs constitute real music, and an auteur such as West doesn’t.
