Aural Only: Jessie J

“Nobody’s Perfect” makes us understand why people actually care about Jessie J. Does that mean it’s our favorite song in the world right now? Not exactly. However, there’s much more sincerity here than when she was singing about price tags, doing it like a dude and all that other bullshit. You can actually hear the pain and heartbreak in her voice, in a way similar to Mary J. Blige or Pink‘s strongest offerings.

All in all, we prefer when the rising UK pop star channels this level of aggression, rather than the schmaltzier energy of tracks like “Rainbow”. While a promo copy of her debut album has been sitting in our office for weeks, we still haven’t taken the time to listen to it… Maybe we should give it a chance?

  1. What does it take for you to take Jessie J seriously. All year we just heard your ranting against Gaga, Britney and Katy and here’s a girl with actual talent and raw energy who is making a difference in the charts. She might not be Adele, but there’s no question she is here to stay.

  2. I still prefer Do it like a dude over any other of her songs. I just love the “level of aggression” in that track as u put it. Not diggin this track yet.

  3. I like it.

I am skeptical of buying the whole album. I previewed it. I kinda reminds me of Katy Perry’s first effort. She is trying to do too much. She is experimenting too much. I think once she gets her “sound” she is gonna be amazing.

This vid kinda reminded me of Gwen’s “What are U Waiting for.”

  4. Hmm, still really don’t get her at all. This is a bit better than the other singles, but I still think she’s rather boring. Fairly cool video this time around, but the song doesn’t make me want to hear it again really. People keep saying she’s the next big thing, but I really don’t think she’ll be around too long unless she has something waiting around to really blow us away.

  5. she’s awesome 🙂 I would definitely watch her perform live. You really see what she’s all about there.

  6. Yeah Dewitt this album is on fire especially if u have the deluxe edition with her acoustic tracks on it, u really hear how powerful her voice really is…she can very well be 1 of the latest & greatest!!!

  7. She’s all kinds of awful. A dumbed-down version of Lily Allen. But I can see how people can like her – lots of people will think she’s “original” although she’s got on a heavy schtick.
