Aural Only: Adele

Admittedly, I was a little skeptical when Adele first appeared on the music scene. Her debut single emerged around the same time Amy Winehouse and Duffy began rising in popularity, and it left me wondering why so many damn white girls were trying to sound soulful.

Don’t get me wrong! I love a little “blue-eyed soul” every now and then, but it felt like the record industry had a new artist to push down our throats for every month after “Rehab”. There were a few hits, and there were a few misses. And it’s taken me way too long to realize Adele was one of the hits.

Seriously, if I had any doubts about this girl, they’re thrown out the window after her latest single “Rolling In The Deep”. Her vocals on this track are incredibly powerful and raw, and the visuals in the music video are actually quite stunning. Now if only the Glee cast would move over and make room for her on the Weekly Top Ten!

  1. I’m glad you are starting to listen to your readers’ recommendations. I suggested this song two weeks ago, before you threw your tantrum on last week’s countdown. She’s one of those singers that needs time to grow on you.

Also, her 2008 track “Make you feel my love” has returned to the Top 10 in the UK a few times thanks to the X Factor and reached a new peak at #4 while the first time only managed to reach #28.

  2. i ever listened Adele’s song, Chasing Pavements… thats great song…
maybe, i’ll try to listen this song…

  3. I first saw this video last night on a splash page on Vevo. Was not a big fan at first of “Chasing Pavements” or “Small Town Glory” but quickly changed my mind when I heard her cover Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love.” After that, I started to listen to her catalog. She’s a tour de force! And this song proves she’s an artist with an incredible talent…

  4. I happen to agree with Hauer, “Chasing Pavements” and “Small Town Glory” didn’t begin to capture the raw essence of Adele’s vocals, and “Make You Feel My Love” is one of her best overall songs. I also LOVE “Cold Shoulder” and “Right As Rain”. This song is amazing as well, can’t wait for the CD it’s on!

  5. This should go to the top of the Weekly Top Ten! Magnificent voice, great song, spectacular arrangement! Adele had me from the first note and she did not let me go.

  6. i would have to disagree with a couple of the guys above i loved chasing pavements and small town glory, i mean they may not have shown her full potential but those songs were great. But this song is deff great and shows alittle more of her amazing voice

  7. I’ve always loved and constantly asking, “when is she going to do some new stuff?” Well, here is it and of course, it’s fantastic!!! Can’t wait until more comes out!

  8. alright sorry to be the bitch but it’s HOME town glory. It is one of my absolute favorite and Adele is stunning. She to me has staying power and I can’t wait to hear more and more from her, she’s always getting my vote. Oh and you should check out her performance of Someone Like You, I’m dying to hear the rest of her album!

  9. While I understand where the guys where the guys above are coming from with the comments about Chasing Pavements and Home Town Glory, compared to todays standard fair of bland pop songs, anything that issues out of Adele’s mouth is *light years* better. That being said, I think this just became my new favorite Adele song. That girl has some serious pipes on her.

  10. Look, I’m not saying Adele’s track isn’t the best of a bad bunch, but I just want to highlight the fact that you don;t promote her and she flounders… then you add her to a headline and she tops the charts.

Kind of makes this chart seem more like a piece of shit where the bloggers have more control over the result than the blogees.
