Andreya Triana: “Song For A Friend”

Hey, remember back in the day when singers actually knew how to sing? Of course you don’t! You’re too busy getting wasted and rubbing your ass crack on stripper poles to shit like this. Why would you ever want to go back a few decades and embrace people with actual talent, the kind of vocalists who could convey thousands of emotions by merely opening their mouths?

I suppose you could argue that Adele and Emeli Sandé are injecting the pop music industry with some semblance of soul, but as long as will.i.am still continues to breathe, we’re probably screwed in the long run. We might as well take a hint from Daft Punk and turn ourselves into robots. Being human is so last season. Feelings? Even worse.

Of course, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could go against the tide of “let’s get drunk and do things that will inevitably kill us, but also stay young forever, because we are young and drunk, because only drunk young people have fun” by embracing a singer like Andreya Triana. She clearly pulls from some old school influences for her latest single “Song For A Friend”, and her smoky vocals feel particularly at home over this jazzy, gospel-infused number.

Even if you don’t love it, you’ve got to respect the talent and class here.
