Album Review: Twin Shadow

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The same rule applies to Twin Shadow‘s debut album Forget. With neutral tones and poor design plaguing the front cover, this first impression is nowhere near indicative of the sounds you’ll hear within. Quite honestly, this project excels beyond your typical Brooklyn hipster fodder.

The project follows a man by the name of George Lewis Jr. as he tramples through a jungle of stellar electro tracks. Much like the album artwork, you should ignore his ironic mustache. There’s much more substance to this man than his carefully groomed facial hair. Give it a try before you knock it!

While you may be tempted to begin your introduction with “Shooting Holes”, we regret to inform you that it’s not about buttholes or ejaculation. With that said, tunes such as “When We’re Dancing” and “At My Heels” are so damn good that you’ll need to change your pants afterwards. If you’re not itching for a copy after those two tracks, then you’re probably not cool enough to “get” this. Just kidding. Sort of.

  1. Sorry, Dewitt. Guess I’m just not “cool enough” because I couldn’t make it through either track. I’ll be turning in my lavender card and giving up my membership!! Maybe 62 is too old, but I feel something when I listen to Katy Perry or Lady Gaga or the the new Madonna single, “Broken.” I feel no emotion listening to Mr. Lewis.

  2. I’m with madio. Even the so-called “good” songs sound like demos that are sent to real singers/musicians for their consideration. You can “hear” the potential in some of the songs that would make them listenable with a real singer and professional production, but the recordings themselves are (IMHO) unlistenable.

  3. the music is o-kay…nothing special. his vocals have all the melodious sounds of a howling cat with a stomach ache. i fail to see your rave about this cd…
