Album Review: Perfect Symmetry by Keane

Keane

Keane has had a rough time since their last hit album: the lead singer entered rehab, they canceled shows, and there’s been the nagging comparison to another Brit favorite, Coldplay. Though this time around they don’t seem to be making as much of a dent in the U.S, their new album, Perfect Symmetry, is being received positively by critics and Europeans. I tend to agree with the positive reaction, with few sticking points.

The two announced singles "Spiralling" and "The Lovers are Losing" are very good. I can see why these are the singles, they were the best songs off the album, though not as catchy or as radio friendly (which probably explains the cool attitude American radio is having) as previous singles. These won’t disappoint and neither will most of the other tracks on the album.

There are some exceptions however, the title track "Perfect Symmetry" as well as "Black Burning Heart" come off a little too ’emo’ if you will, though they still don’t beat "Somewhere Only We Know" in that regard.

Overall they maintained their razor sharp power Pop/Rock style, and if you liked it before, you’ll like it again! I would say it’s a good album and one you’d expect from them, despite all the pre-release hype of major changes; it contains few surprises that are on average good.
