Album Review: Beyonce “I Am…Sasha Fierce”

Sippers, I got my hands on Beyonce’s third album, which will be released on November 18. Titled I Am…Sasha Fierce it features her alter ego which allows her to take risks and break from her usual shyness. It's a two disc album and she divides the songs between her different personas. The slower, mellower, more serious songs are on the first disc, while the upbeat songs are on the second.

  • The opening for I Am is her radio smash “If I Were A Boy,” a female empowerment anthem, which I originally wrote off as a snooze but grew to love.
  • The following track “Halo,” one of my favorite songs from the first disc is very heavy on drums, piano, and trumpets.
  • “Ave Maria” samples a hook from the infamous iconic opera singer Charles Aznavour, and she sings about unexpectedly finding love. Could she be possibly talking about her husband Jay Z?
  • “Ego” her rumored second single has an 80’s soulful feel I absolutely love. The I Am disc is full of exceptional ballads that her fans will love.
  • So let’s get to Sasha Fierce and “Single Ladies,” the opening track where she sings about an ex who wants her back after seeing her out and about having a good time.
  • The following track “Radio” is  euro-dance inspired techno with lots of synthesized instruments.
  • On “Diva,” she borrows a bit of her rapper husband Jay Z’s intensity.

Sasha Fierce may be a force of nature on disc one, but on disc two Sasha Fierce is certainly not. I absolutely enjoyed "I Am" a lot better. If I was her doctor, I’d order her to go on a hiatus, embrace the married life and have a kid or two because the Pop World has been so saturated with Beyonce that it feels like her music hasn't evolved at all.

When I Am…Sasha Fierce releases on Nov. 18 fans will have 2 choices. The normal album will have 11 tracks: 6 by Beyonce and 5 by Sasha, but there will also be a deluxe album sold simultaneously that will have 17 tracks: 8 by Beyonce and 9 by Sasha. The choice is yours, sippers.
