Long before my dick started delving into hyperbolic statements, I named Travis Matthews‘ 14 minute short I Want Your Love the Best Sex Scene of 2010. It was far from an exaggeration. The film offered up an accurate and honest depiction of what it’d be like for two friends to enter “more than friends” territory (in a pre-Guypop society, nonetheless).
The tension leading up to that moment was more erotic than 99% of today’s gay porn, and the way Matthews captured the actual, uh, moment showed just enough to arouse the senses, but not enough to make it feel flat-out pornographic. This was beyond Hunting Season or late-night softcore soap operas. It was art that stimulated both my mind and my crotch.
It’s not exactly clear why I’ve been avoiding the feature film version, especially when it’s been practically impossible to avoid news items about it. James Franco went out of his way to speak out about the movie being banned at an Australian film festival. The audition tapes have been plastered on gay porn blogs. And the project’s even been a topic of discussion on the Huffington Post.
In a way, I guess I’m nervous that the full-length flick won’t live up to my expectations. This is a ridiculous concern to have—Matthews has never let me down with his work—but, even so, I have a tormented relationship with gay cinema. So much of it sucks… But, hey, maybe this is the movie that will change that, encouraging other filmmakers to step up their game, avoid tired themes and utilize sex and nudity for more than just an “eye candy” factor.

I have watched it, the 14 minute short is better I think. Jesse as a character in the long form came out as confused and his sex scenes are almost non existent lol
