What The Hell Is Happening In This New Beyoncé Song?

There’s a decent breakdown and analysis of Beyoncé‘s new song “Bow Down/I Be On” over here if you’re interested. For me, it sounds like she listened to Azealia Banks‘ “Van Vogue” and Rihanna‘s new record far too many times, rolled into the studio with producer Hit-Boy and said to him, “Hey, let’s make something that sounds like that!”

It’s somewhat baffling that she’d release this pitch-shifted hodgepodge as the first new material since her critically-adored fourth album, which brought us  “Countdown“, “Love On Top” and some of her strongest R&B tracks to date. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this is just a buzz track or a leftover from her studio sessions… Or, well, maybe we should just embrace it and get used to Beyoncé’s trap music era? It’s too soon to tell.

  1. Its a mess, the music is just all over the place….i love Beyonce and all, but please dont let this be her new sound..:S

  2. Loving the beat, not sure how it related to Beyonce’s voice or what she’s trying to do with this song. Definitely not lead single material – this sounds like one of the closing tracks of the album, or an A$AP Rocky song. (Minus the Clams Casino.)

I’m hoping this is a hype track and not an official single, because isn’t selling me on the follow-up to 4 at all.

  3. It’s def a promo song to get us hyped for the start of the tour next month. No freakin way this is a new song since it’s been confirmed by producers it’s a mash of 2 different songs

  4. I love this song. I don’t think it’s a lead single, just because it’s quite extreme. But people obviously seem to hate it. Please kindly appreciate that this doesn’t sound like every single song on the radio!

  5. It’s awful! It sounds as if they attempted to improvise—girlfriend threw everything in here but the kitchen sink! Why be Beyonce, only to sound like all of those bitches you are telling to bow down.

  6. Damn…..is it just me or has Beyonce become so damn full of herself in the last few years? She just seems so arrogant.

  7. I like it as a hype track. What’s even more amazing, is that she still sounds better doing tired shit as an experiment than those who rely on it (Rihanna, Ciara, etc.).
