Weekly Top Ten: The End of The World As We Know It?

You may assume the title of this post is a reference to today’s number one song, an apocalyptic dance number by Ms. Britney Spears. Unfortunately, it’s a signal of the end of the Weekly Top Ten countdown on Manhunt Daily. Rumor has it that a similar feature may pop up elsewhere in the very near future, but we can neither confirm nor deny those rumors at this moment.

Taking that into account, we’re going to treat this like any other week on the charts. That means we still have to wave goodbye to our previous rounds rejects, all of which begin with the letter “K”. Here they are, in order of most votes to least–Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue and Kelly Rowland. Better luck (if there’s a) next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, spread your cheeks for these frat boys while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (LW – 1, W8): Perhaps it was somewhat presumptuous to call last week’s countdown a “Gagapocalypse”. Despite the premiere of the second single from Born This Way, the one and only Britney Spears remains on top of the world. But where will she goes when it all comes to an end? We couldn’t tell you, because we’re too busy dancing
  2. Lady Gaga – Judas (LW – 7, W2): To say that the reactions to “Judas” were mixed could be a bit of an understatement. Some of you downright hated it, and the recently unveiled motorcycle-hybrid album cover hasn’t exactly helped Gaga’s case. Alas, the true monsters will be there ’til the very end. Are you one of them?
  3. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 3, W11): Strangely enough, we suspect that “Born This Way” will perform better after this week, given the excitement over Chris Colfer and Amber Riley’s rendition for Glee. The ninety-minute, similarly titled episode will air this Tuesday. We’re mostly excited about it because it involves Max Adler.
  4. Adele – Someone Like You (LW – 2, W8): Speaking of which, can we talk about this week’s “Night of Neglect” episode of Glee? In particular, the part where Gwyneth Paltrow performed a song by Adele? Can someone please explain to me how Adele is a “neglected” artist? She’s sold, like, a bajillion albums!
  5. Rihanna & Britney Spears – S&M (Remix) (LW – 8, W2): Do you like it, like it? Or was the mere hype enough to get this remix into the top five? Are we asking too many fucking questions? And while we’re at it, should we congratulate Rihanna on scoring her tenth number one hit? It’s impossible to say.
  6. Sahara Davenport – Pump With Me (LW – 10, W2): Don’t get mad! There are no rules saying that you and your loved ones can’t promote your own song on Twitter. We refuse to “disqualify” Sahara Davenport after she came only four votes shy of defeating Rihanna and Britney Spears. Obviously, people on Manhunt are going to vote for a song about pumping…
  7. Beyoncé – Girls (Who Run The World) (DEBUT): Reserve your judgment on Queen B’s latest offering until the music video premieres. As you may recall, people thought “Single Ladies” was a noisy piece of crap until there was a choreographed dance. After that? You couldn’t go to a single gay bar without some crazy fool telling you to “put a ring on it”.
  8. Beastie Boys – Make Some Noise (DEBUT): We’re not going to lie. We only ranked the Beastie Boys this high for aesthetic reasons in this week’s opening collage. Nevertheless, the music video for this song is pretty fantastic, and we’re totally digging the amped-up remix by Passion Pit.
  9. Natalia Kills – Wonderland (DEBUT): One of two songs on this week’s charts that takes inspiration from Alice In Wonderland for its visual counterpart. In this case, it makes sense, considering the song is actually called “Wonderland”. What’s your excuse, Jessie J?
  10. Jessie J – Nobody’s Perfect (DEBUT): This post. That’s all.

  1. Two votes for Lady Gaga and one for Adele this week.

Sad face that I can’t vote for Katy Perry….

  2. hohoho!
    Justice wins!
I’m glad that recycled piece of crap is not getting any number ones across the world. Ye, i’m referring to Judas… Just a recycled Bad Romance… but anyway…

Why on earth Dewitt? Dont do that. I honestly gave D-List a chance, but that place is falling in the footsteps of myspace. Myspace failure lesson: never let ppl customize their own webpage. Why? Cos 99% of them dont have any design skills and their page ends up a hot mess which is painful to look at. That’s why facebook wins, cos it’s nice and pretty and simple. Myspace is history. Dlist… try to rework it plz. It really got the potential.

Back to the chart. Congrats to Britney, seems like she easily survived the gagapocalypse just like she survived the apocalypse at the end of her own video. I wonder if the remix version will help her get 6th number 1 on Billboard.

Beyonce is kinda flopping on iTunes, so is Judas. Not sure the videos will help any of them. The studio version for girls sounds as bad as demo….

Pity to see Adele falling, but we do need something new from her. By the way, her Rolling in the Deep is looking for something like number 2 on Billboard next week. She will be number 1 on digital most likely, but not overall thx to radio stations’ obsession with Katy.

Oh well, Dew, I really hope you won’t shut down this countdown… It’s the only place which is not overcrowded enough to have your opinion heard. I never bother commenting on youtube or other places like that cos it’s like talking to yourself, cos hardly anyone would read it.

  3. No more weekly top 10? NO way! I really enjoy coming here and talking about music…gay people also love talking about music. It’s not always about dicks and butts, we deserve our space for some chit chat of what’s going on the music business.

Now we dont even get album reviews by Dewitt and they’re removing this too?

Hope you think about it well.

And one more thing…go Britney! ^^

  4. I still think it was ruled by Gaga this week.

She had 2 singles on this chart and if u add the % of both songs, she was way out on top.

Even if u add Brit with Rihanna, Gaga was #1.

It is a shame that some artists need the support of other singers to get success – aka rihanna and now britney with nicki and kesha.

It is also a shame that kesha and katy got voted off.

Between Katy, Gaga and Kesha, they are the true singer-songwriters on this chart.

  5. Gaga all the way! Judas is sooo addictive and BTW has an awsome message! Gaga has talent and its good 2 see her 2 songs r doin well here. Paws up!!!

  6. I am REALLY going to miss this countdown and the mid week votes as well. It’s a nice balance to the rest of the (also great) stuff on this blog. I really love hearing everyone’s opinions (even if they are completely wrong 🙂 LOL) and watching the fights between the fans. Hopefully it’ll find it’s way back here. I tried D List as my first online dating site. Not bad, but still far from the polish of this site. 🙁

    And GO BRITNEY!!!! Byebye Gaga.

  7. D List SUX!

    Keep this countdown.

100 messages on last week’s. You can’t get better than that!

  8. Don’t take it away, Dewitt. I like this feature and I get to recommend songs that end up in this Top Ten. Even if there are negative people, it’s fun to stir a debate. Consider our pleads.

  9. @Matt, sorry to disappoint you, but it was Britney the overall winner this week. Her combined 27.05% of the votes vs Gaga’s combined 26.43% of the votes.

Dont mess with statistics while I’m around hohoho!

But ye, 100 messages last week. This countdown has the most heated discussions on this blog!

  10. And by the way, Dew, can you sort out the time zone issues with comments. See, my comment is first at the moment, but then some bitch from Alaska logs in ten hours later and his comment gets before mine.

Not only that, but often you see new comments added, but you need to look for them among old comments, cos the timing is messed up.

Besides, I checked in google cache, and we are getting a totally different page here as opposed to America. There you can reply to other people’s posts directly and even ‘like’ them. Here we can only stockpile one comment on another.

And also, when you compile ‘most popular of the week’ post you dont include comments/views from non-US readers? That’s sad.

Lols, lots of ranting… I hope you are reading this.

  11. Wow, maybe this column is ending because of all the crap that is in the “top ten”. I voted for Adele, Beyonce, and the Beastie Boys.

  12. Pls dewitt don’t take away the weekly top ten. We all love it! I look foward 2 this post every week. Dlist sux. And fyi u get alot of comments on this and its fun 2 watch the heated comments between fans.

  13. I get the feeling that this blog is going to start cutting any blog posts that don’t have anything to do with naked men.

  14. I’m Latin, hehe and yes, it sounded like that 😛

But you’re right, it seems like we don’t get the same features as they do, but I still like it a lot and I dont want the countdown to leave.

  15. thats shit man, I love the top ten on here, it runs in complete opposite to real-world charts!!

  16. actually after a careful examination of google cache i realized that americans dont even see our comments, they are not displayed for them
we see 100 comments, but they only see 19….
not sure how that works, but it sux! discrimination!

  17. Don’t take this feature off this blog. It’s one of the three reasons I like to read it almost everyday and a lot of the artists that have been here got exposure through your suggestions and those of the readers. If there were 100 comments last week that means that people are paying attention. Even if it’s to pick up fights with Nex, LOL.

  18. The new remix of Till The World Ends with Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha is sick! That breakdown is all kinds of amazing!

    Brit gets my vote 🙂

  19. Since pop seems to be the order of… forever… Can I suggest “Be My Animal” by The Good Natured? It’s a bit grittier than most of the pop numbers here, but I think it stands a chance.

  20. ALSO NO2DLIST. That site is terrible, and I’m not signing up there just to be snarky on some blog posts. >:(

  21. No catfights this week?
    This is boring, c’mon girls!
    Lets ‘discuss’ something.

I’d love to point out how hard Judas is flopping on iTunes, it’s almost out of top 20 after a week only. Gaga won’t go far without promotion.
In comparison, Brit’s TTWE stayed in and around Top 10/Top 20 for 7-8 weeks now almost without any promo!
Gaga will now start some major promo to save her Bad Romance… I mean her Judas… This is sad. What’s up lil monsters? What happened to your claws, lol….

  22. We have to do something to keep the countdown here. It’s not the same in another site. I voted for everyone this week except Sahara and Beastie Boys.

  23. though im going to really miss this blog on manhuntdaily.com, i LOVE the possibility of moving it to dlist.com – you guys should do it!

  24. I really don’t think that this countdown should i end, i love it!
But it has to be said that if this truly is the end then it’s only fitting that the queen of pop is still holding the #1 spot when it ends.

  25. People may say what they want, but there is not a single person on this countdown that has the style, charisma, and sheer talent of Gaga.

Did you see her perform Judas live on Ellen today?

    If not take a look:

    http://www.billboard.com/#/column/viralvideos/lady-gaga-performs-judas-on-ellen-watch-1005160962.story

I cannot remember a performance like that in recent history, and definitely not one by any of the other top 10 contenders.

I like Rihanna, Brit, Beyonce, Jessie J as well, but lets face it Rihanna needed Brit to get to #1, Brit is going to need Nicki and Kesha to get TTWE any decent attention on billboard. Beyonce’s new song is just horrible! Gaga doesn’t need support from any other artist. Love her or hate her, she does it on her own. Dances, sings, writes, chooses her own singles, album covers, etc, all on her own. Judas may never be one of her most successful singles, but she put it out there. She chose it. She wanted it to be heard. Some artists have record labels tell them what will be released. Most artists on this site release safe singles. I don’t think Gaga fits into this category.

  26. Gaga rules and the month of May will prove it. Not even the haters will stop her. Britney might get a new life for her single with the new remix, but it’s sad that artists have to do this last minute collaborations to get more attention to their music. Another case is Katy Perry with Kanye for E.T.

Dewitt, if you want to take the countdown away, at least continue reviewing new music and let people express their opinions. I won’t follow you on D-List because I do like Manhuntdaily a lot and has become part of my everyday routine.
