Wait, Did Santigold Just Diss Lady Gaga?

Well, this certainly wasn’t very subtle! Santigold, the eclectic pop artiste whose songs you’ve probably heard in a dozen commercials for sneakers or gross beer, has finally released the first single from her upcoming project Master of My Make Believe, “Big Mouth”. Why should you care (or not care) about this? Because, apparently, she’s throwing some shade at gay culture’s most loved/hated pop diva Lady Gaga.

Look, it doesn’t make much sense to us either, but the song definitely includes the following lyric—“Gaga, Gaga, all slightly off”. The video finds Santi rolling her eyes at a curiously-styled blond-haired mermaid, shortly before a tiger devours the Gaga lookalike and holds a bloody crown in its mouth.

Is there a feud between these two that we weren’t aware of? What will the little monsters have to say about this? Does it matter? Whatever your feelings are on Ms. “Born This Way”, you’re either going to love or hate this Switch and Buraka Som Sistema-produced track. Most likely, you’re just going to compare it to M.I.A. Less likely, you’re going to head over to Santi’s website and download it for free.

  1. This seems like a non issue,?then again I dislike “Lady” Gag.
If she didn’t mean anything by it oh well and if she did good for her since people are giving her publicity for it.

  2. I think it’s a dis on mainstream music in general. At the end there’s what looks like Katy Perry from the cloud scene in California Girls. Whatever, celebrities fighting over pop culture is lame. I’m gonna go listen to some Tsunami Bomb now.

  3. Hmm, you’re right! This is just too much like M.I.A.. The composition, the lyrics, the vocals and even the video are too similar to anything by M.I.A.. Although as much as I would love this to actually be a diss on Gaga I’ve learned that’s not going to change anything. The only way Gaga will disappear is if her fans realize what an untalented hack she is and unfortunately Little Monsters are just not that intelligent. Stupid shallow Monsters -_-

  4. I don’t know who this “wanna-be” is, but apparently all she can do is tear down everyone else – it SUCKS !! – and so does her music !! – just another flash in the pan.

  5. …HOLY CRAP!

I never thought I would ever hear ANYONE mention Tsunami Bomb.

    Have any favourites by them?

  6. I like all their music. Favorites include–

    Invasion from Within
    Lemonade
    In this Together
    The Simple Truth
    5150
    My Machete

I own all their albums, I was a huge fan. It’s too bad they broke up. I purchased Em’s new bands music ‘The Action Design’ it’s ok but just not the same. Glad to see another fan. 😀

  7. 1) This is waaayyyyy better than that garbage M.I.A. last released. 2) ubg469, you probably shouldn’t dis a music genre/artist you don’t understand. And I’m pretty sure the B.E.P. are way more of a “wannabe” than Santigold considering she has never had to change her sound to fit in with the now mainstream “electro” trend.

  8. Seems like a current theme, Gaga isn’t diss proof it happens to everyone. Both Katy Perry and Madonna have a problem with the bitch. Comes with the territory of being on top.

  9. The whole album The Invasion Within is gold for me.
I keep meaning to check out her album.
I got into them through a video game.
I’m glad to see another fan as well.

  10. Ed knows his shit. This isn’t a jab at Gaga exclusively, and let’s not forget that “gaga” has meaning as an actual word.

  11. I like this, and it does give me a bit of an MIA vibe. I’ll also be checking out this tsunami bomb, thanks mh folk 🙂

  12. THIS IS ACTUALLY A GREAT SONG, AND ALSO.. I FUCKING HATE LADY GAGA… DONT SAY GAY CULTURE LOVE HER.. BECAUSE THATS NOT FUCKING TRUE
