Pet Shop Boys: “Invisible”

Confession! I’m not familiar with the majority of Pet Shop Boys‘ work. This makes me feel like a failure at gay life, especially considering one of my past musical projects was compared (often) to their style… But I guess it’s never to late to catch on?

As it goes, I’m catching on hard to the duo’s latest single “Invisible”. It reminds me, for lack of a better comparison, of The Postal Service‘s “This Place Is A Prison”, as well as the general crop of sad, electronic releases that preceded and followed that era of indie music.

Oh, and did I mention that the music video is BRILLIANT? Because it is.

  1. Dewitt:  With the exception of “Bilingual” and “Very” I can safely recommend ANYTHING by the PSB.  Absolutely amazing body of work, especially when you consider is spans thirty years.  Seen them live three times and their shows are outstanding.

  2. Thanks, LoveRimmingAss! I’ll have to explore their music on Spotify or pick up a few records at the local shop.

    PS: I like your name.

  3. Start with their first album – One More Chance is probably their most addictive song…

  4.  wow!  Very is generally considered their best work by mainstream critics, and I happen to think that Bilingual is their very best album — although not the best place to start listening to PSB, because of its density.

  5. PSB ageless music,Rent, Left to My Own Devices, Being Boring, I could go on and on, great music

  6. Just put their Discography in and chill out with a drink, or whatever your poison is, it will take you away, and u also might  find yourself jumping up and dancing a little

  7. I might like it  in the context of an album.  Reminds me a bit of the pace of Behaviour, an album that sounds much better taken as a whole then as singles.

However, I’ve grown bored with them over the years.  Their last good album was Nightlife.

  8. If you want a good sampling of PSB music, Ultimate is a pretty decent collection of their hits. Being a Catholic school boy for so many years, It’s A Sin remains one of my favorite songs today. Good to see them still going strong.

  9. My favorite is “Domino Dancing”.    The lyric “Do you play to win or are you just a bad loser?” is forever etched into my mind.

  10. One of my favorite PSB songs is ‘What Have I done to Deserve This?” with Dusty Springfield, from 1987. The genuine respect the PSBs had for Miss Springfield, and their absolute insistence on her being the female voice on the track (though the record company was against it) brought a true legend back to public conciousness.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn9E5i7l-Eg&ob=av3n
