The snob in me has to admit that I became a little disenchanted with Passion Pit, after they went from my own little secret to an internationally-recognized “indie” band who makes remixes for Lady Gaga and has their songs played on Gossip Girl.
That isn’t to say that I didn’t enjoy their 2009 debut LP Manners. Au contraire, my friend! The sheer magnitude of “The Reeling” and “Little Secrets” overcompensated for the lack of the DIY aesthetic which made me fall in love with tracks like “Better Things” and “I’ve Got Your Number”. The project didn’t exactly work for me as a whole, but there were enough highlights that I’d consider it a successful effort on their part.
As we come closer to the July 24th release date of Gossamer, the band’s sophmore album, I find myself getting more and more excited about hearing new material from these guys. The lead single “Take A Walk” is partially responsible for this excitement. Listen to it above, and see what you think!
