Invasion of The Disqus Comment System

After a careful amount of consideration, we’ve decided to use the DISQUS comment system on Manhunt Daily. What does this mean to you? Well, a few things! In general, it should improve your overall browsing experience, while making it easier for us to moderate inappropriate content.

You may have noticed that comments on previous posts are missing. Don’t panic! We’re in the process of migrating them over to the new system, so it won’t be too long before they’re back on the site. As it goes, the benefits of our new system will drastically outweigh this brief moment of inconvenience.

And exactly what are those benefits? For starters, you’ll be able to reply to individual comments, keeping each discussion in a neat, organized thread. You’ll also be able to “Like” comments, which will move them closer to the top of the page on our default setting.

Last but not least, you’ll now be able to flag inappropriate comments! This will allow us to better manage and respond to your concerns about abusive users, while allowing you to self-moderate your fellow readers. Take a moment to get used to the new system, and then let us know what you think.

  1. Thanks guys! This would make this blog so much better by help identify racist comments.

  2. Oh, great now people who read my comments on channel 7 will be able to tell I like gay porn.

Not to mention, Disqus has a nasty habit of flagging your entire post over “bad words”. I’m actually afraid to try.

As for, “allowing you to self-moderate your fellow readers” what this really means “I will flag anything I don’t agree with”. Over on WHDH any bad mouthing of Charlie Baker is flagged over and over again (and Disqus never reviews the flagged comments), but I wonder what it will be over here? Talk about how yucky uncut hogs are….. maybe.

I guess what I’m really saying is, I don’t care for this very much.

  3. um ok..i just finished watching landon lycles shove a fat dildo up his ass and the other guy blow cum on him…so um what kind of “in appropriate” comments could we possibly have on here that may offend anyone? i’m confused..

  4. I don’t like this flagging system. I feel like all the loud queens will flag anything they disagree with.

The comments should be moderated by the bloggers. It’s not like you have a bazillion comments to comb through.

  5. THIS SYSTEM MAKES IT BULLSHIT TO ACTUALLY COMMENT. IT IS CENSORSHIP. IT MEANS ONLY COMMENTS SAYING HOW WONDERFUL MANHUNT IS AND STUFF LIKE THAT WILL GET HIGHLY FEATURED

WHY NOT JUST BAN FUCKING COMMENTS, OR GET YOUR STAFF TO WRITE FAKE ONES SAYING WHAT YOU WANT.

  6. You Queens are never fuckin’ happy!! Just choke on your fuckin dildo’s already and shut the fuck up! Dewitt got abuse for not responding to the racist comments too quickly. Now Manhunt have implemented a system which will make it for difficult for that racist stuff to go on the site. We’re also given a bit of power to try prevent this. The problem with the world isn’t racism or homophobia or whatever. It’s you self-righteous fairies that just look for any excuse to start up trouble!

  7. I like it. Being somewhat naive about his these things work, is hitting the ‘flag’ button going to delete the supposedly offending post, or just let someone know that it needs to be looked into?

  8. If enough users flag a certain comment, it will be temporarily removed from the site and marked for moderation. We’ll also be notified of ALL flagged comments, and we will remove any which violate our policy. Hope that clears things up!

  9. It does! And thank you very much for all the work you folks put into this site. I feel so sorry for all those negative comments that had to prompt this, but hey, so much the better fo those of us that can disagree without resorting to name calling & bigotry.

    Thanks, again!

  10. 1. In most blog communities, self-moderation works out to be better on the whole. If someone’s an asshat, it’s fine for them to find somewhere else to troll.

    2. “Disqus” doesn’t review flagged comments. The site admins that manage the Disqus install on the blog get a list of moderated and flagged posts and are responsible for approving or w/e.

  12. Community moderation helps build a more dedicated commenting community. It’ll improve the conversations, both quantity and quality.

  14. BJH, sign up for a free Disqus account. It’ll keep you logged in between posts and give you some more features beyond what the old system provided.

  16. I’m having the same issue as BJH and I did do what you said. I sign in, make one comment, change to the next blog and to comment, I have to sign in again. It’s more than annoying. Any additional advice? Or am I just doing the whole process wrong.

  17. Hi Michael. Not exactly sure — I like to reach “troubleshooter” status with most of the tech I use but I have to admit I’m only a very casual user of Disqus. I’d guess maybe you’re using the private function of your browser or otherwise blocking the saving of browser sessions, or maybe something with checking a “remember me” option when logging in? But I couldn’t say.
