He’s Gay: Jim Nabors Got Married

Congratulations to Jim Nabors! The 82 years-old actor and singer, known for his role as Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show, came out of the closet with a bang last night when it was announced that he was wed to his partner of 38 years, Stan Cadwallader.

“I haven’t ever made a public spectacle of it,” he told Hawaii News Now. “Well, I’ve known since I was a child, so, come on. It’s not that kind of a thing. I’ve never made a huge secret of it at all… This is really no big deal. My friend and I, my partner, we went through all of this 38 years ago, so I mean, we made our vows and that was it. It was to each other, but nevertheless, we were a couple.”

As much as it’s great to see someone like Matt Dallas open up about his sexuality, there’s something special about an old Hollywood type like Nabors coming forward and living his truth in the public eye. The gayest part of me wants to give him a call and say, “Do you, Jim! Do you!”, but I don’t have his phone number and that would be atrociously awkward.

  1. I always wanted to use this!
    Quotes from The Simpsons, but

    I before E except after C
Except when pronounced like “ay” as in “neighbor” and “weigh”
Really? What about in the sentence “Jim Nabors is way cool”?
How often is that going to come up?

Jim Nabors is way cool for marrying someone forty-four years younger.

  2. Oh snap! I misread that. Thanks for correcting.
I don’t know if I want to be so lucky the idea of a relationship itself scares me!

  3. Hmm. He’s vehemently denied his homosexuality for years, taken advantage of gay marriage laws to get married, but has no plans to be an activist. So basically he’s failed to act when it might have helped the community, sponged off the efforts of others to help him get a right, and then says he won’t do anything to help anyone else? Sorry, but that’s nothing to be proud of at all.

  4. I saw thirty-eight and somehow in my mind I thought his husband was that age haha.
No where did it say the husbands age so ease up yeesh.

  5. At least Anderson Cooper did not wait this long.

BTW: Have you seen Victor Garber’s hunkalicious man?? He’s HAWT!!

  6. I knew Jim Nabors was gay, the first time I saw him on the Andy Griffith show and that was back in 196_ something

  7. I didn’t say he had an obligation to be an activist. I said there’s nothing to be proud of here. He did nothing to contribute to the gay community, took advantage of the work that was done, and then promptly said he wasn’t going to contribute. It’s his choice to be an activist, but if he doesn’t, he’s sponging off the work of others.

  8. So are you implying that one must be an activist to take advantage of rights, or else you’re not worthy of them?
