Geek Out: Action Figures Are For Adults Too!

While I'm looking forward to pumpkin pies and slutty Halloween costumes, I'm a little sad that September is coming to an end. For every Friday of this month, I had a date with my fake boyfriend David on Fanboys of The Universe. We'd venture on a weekend date to the country, cuddle while watching Robot Chicken and then he'd bend me over the couch and pound me mercilessly. 

At least that's what happened when I closed my eyes very tightly. Upon closing my eyes even tighter, David would also become one-hundred percent versatile. It was sort of magical, but not in a "glittery vampire" sort of way.

As this next month drifts upon us, some new guy named Gavin will attempt to replace my deepest love as the October Fanboy of the Month. I know nothing about him, and it's scaring me quite a bit. Is he going to be into lame shit like Twilight? Will his favorite superhero be someone lame like Aqualad? It's impossible to say.

To deal with this grueling uncertainty, I plan to reminisce on the good times David and I have had together. It's going to involve some lube, these pictures and this action figure over here. Care free to join me, but if you get too close to my man... I might have to incinerate you with my laser cumshot.

Geek Out: Marvel's Proposition X

If you haven't seen it yet, Ryan Jent wrote a terrific article for The Daily Loaf entitled "Marvel’s X-Men square off against allegorical Proposition 8". Whether you're a comic-book geek or the kind of guy who used to beat them up, you should definitely check out Jent's comparison between the fictional Proposition X and the all-too-real Propostion 8.

This particular instance may be a "coincidental analogy", but a quote from Matt Fraction could potentially explain why so many gay men flock to comics--"If you’ve ever been discriminated against, picked on, ridiculed, or rejected because of who you were or what you did, you can maybe see a little of yourself here.”

On a completely unrelated note, that reminds me of a fantastic quote from Ellen DeGeneres that I read this morning. In response to doubts of her placement as an American Idol judge, the openly lesbian host said, "I know I'm going to be a great judge — because I've spent my whole life being judged." I guess that means we can read comic books and judge American Idol...?
