Dutch Park Acknowledges Gay Cruisers

Park Crusing
A park in Slotervaart, a city just south of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, has placed signs warning nature lovers and families to avoid gay cruising areas. Though sex in public is technically illegal, the De Oeverlanden park has been used so long for such purposes that it has become a "gedoog". Apparently that's a Dutch word for tolerating unwanted behavior.

"There are various groups of users of the park; people with small children who bathe on the beaches, those who walk their dogs, gays cruising and nature lovers," said municipal spokesperson Manon Koffijberg.
"Things are arranged so that each group can relax in their own area without intruding on each other."

Wow, so they're basically designating a cruising-only area? Something like this would never happen in America! Do people still even cruise for sex in parks anymore? That seems so pre-internet…

  1. Apparently gay men are still cruising parks for sex in Tucson, Arizona. I just found that out last weekend.

  2. It NEVER went out of style in San Francisco. You obviously haven’t been here in a long time Dewitt (unless you actually live here and are too busy with your blog to get out and enjoy the wonders of our city parks)!

  3. This happens all over America…It’s against the law here as well but it still happens anyway. My friend use to tell me all the time about picking up guys in parks in New York City…It even happens sometimes in places like Houston.

  4. What a pragmatic attitude. Very refreshing, And it works both ways: you don’t want a family with children passing by when you’re sucking dick in the outdoors. BTW, the correct word would be ‘gedoogd’ and the shouldn’t be an ‘a’ in front of it.

  5. you’re so a tolerant! D:

k, yeah, cruising for sex doesn’t really happen in parks unless you pre-arrange it online… jeez, can’t entirely abandon the old ways 😛
it still happens, just not tons.

  6. Randomly cruising in parks?
Wow, the risks some guys take for some nooky is astounding. Lol I can picture it now: (News Headline) Local gay guy tries to pick up gay guy at local city park, gaydar sucks and is subsequently lynched” Haha even I would chuckle at that.
Get a friggin boyfriend for god’s sake.

  7. I WISH there were still more cruisy places left here in the states. I grew up cruising parks and tea rooms. Maybe I need to move to Amsterdam. Damn, I wish we had some smart folks here in the states who were brave enough to pass laws like this.

  8. I think the times have changed and gay culture has progressed to passing meaningful laws such as gay marriage in a few States! Cruising parks is anathema to progress in gay culture.
