Could Adam Lambert Rescue American Idol?

Adam Lambert
The top ten downloads from this season's American Idol contestants have leaked, and the totally not homosexual Adam Lambert leads the pack with six of the most popular performances. His rendition of Tears For Fears' "Mad World" tops the list.
Speculation over who will join Lambert when he likely makes it to the top two is underway, as Kris Allen nabs three of the top ten spots and Danny Gokey shows up at number nine. Check out the rankings here.
Based on Lambert's current popularity, do you think he could save the show's reputation for churning out hit-makers? Though Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks made a big splash with his debut single "Do I Make You Proud?", he was never able to provide a decent follow-up.Though Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks eventually made waves with her single "No Air", everyone wasn't so crazy about her first single "Tattoo". And even if Season 7 winner David Cook has a platinum album on his hands, not one of his songs has hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts.
Obviously, all three previous winners have achieved success in one way or another, but Idol used to be a show that produced at least one chart-topping hit per winner (with the exception of Ruben Studdard, who was overshadowed by Clay Aiken). Whether the national decline in album sales or the show is to blame, there has definitely been a change in the hit-making capabilities of Idol alumni. In several years, the show has yet to turn out another Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood.
Lambert has a chance to change this trend, and perhaps he'll do so while becoming the show's first (maybe) gay winner! Let's hope his song for the finale isn't some terrible power-ballad written by Kara DioGuardi. Fingers crossed.
