The internet is suddenly obsessed with this actor in the new London production of ‘Evita’

A video clip of actress Rachel Zegler crying happy tears during a curtain call of Evita has gone viral. However, it’s not purely because of her show of emotion.

Many on the internet were less interested in Zegler and more taken by the handsome actors flanking the 24-year-old. The new Evita, helmed by queer director Jamie Lloyd is at the London Palladium. That’s the same guy behind the recent Sunset Blvd revival with Nicole Scherzinger.

In a marketing move hailed as genius, Zegler sings the classic “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” on the theatre’s exterior balcony, in full street view.

That’s gone down well with members of the public, but less so with some paying audience members. They have to make do with a live-stream of Zegler’s outdoor balcony performance on a giant video screen.

Amid that controversy, what’s not in doubt is Zegler’s talent. After facing some hostile press for the box office disappointment Snow White, she’s received great reviews for her turn as Eva Perón. The rapturous applause she received this week clearly touched her.

His name is Diego Andres Rodriguez, and he plays the role of Che in Evita. Before this, he appeared in Sunset Blvd. on Broadway.

A free performance from Zegler outside the theate, a novel reimaging of the Andrew Lloyd Weber/Tim Rice musical by queer genius Jamie Lloyd, and a cast full of hotties? Suddenly, a trip to London is looking all the more attractive.
