Stranger Things 5 Trailer: Vecna Returns As One Last Battle Awaits In Netflix Smash’s Final Season

Somehow… Vecna returned! Yes, after months of emotional behind the scenes teasers, tantalising episode name reveals, and the announcement of a first-of-its-kind three-part release plan, the first trailer for Stranger Things 5 — the fifth and final season of The Duffer Brothers’ global phenomenon Netflix series — has been released at long last. And if this first look at our final trip to Hawkins is anything to go by, then it looks like we’re in for a hell of a final ride with Will, Eleven, and the rest of the gang as they look to defeat Vecna — and escape the Upside Down’s clutches — once and for all. Check it out below;

Phew! Give us a moment to catch our breath because that was *a lot*. From Steve’s hair to Eddie Munson’s headstone, a flying El to an also-seemingly-flying Will, actual Linda Hamilton packing heat to the return of Vecna in a gruesome new, final form, and so much more besides, this trailer somehow manages to tease everything while giving away nothing. Handily however, the official synopsis for the final season of Stranger Things gives us something of a steer on how this final run of episodes is likely to shake out: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

It’s been a wild ride these last nine years as we’ve watched our Hawkins heroes — Will (Noah Schnapp), El (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and too many more to name — come of age before our very eyes. But with the end nigh, and the promise that ‘The Rightside Up’ awaits at the other end of this three-volume finale, one thing’s for sure: we’re gonna need to stock up on tissues and Eggos before 26 November… and Christmas Day… and New Year’s Eve arrive. Here’s hoping the Duffers have one more critical hit up their sleeve yet!
