Terminator 2: Judgment Day Is Returning To Cinemas In 4K Later This Year

When Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “I’ll be back” as The Terminator, chances are he didn’t specifically mean, “I’ll be back in cinemas again 35 years later, in a re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one of the greatest sci-fi blockbusters ever made.” But if he did, then that’s some serious prophetic prowess. Because it’s just been confirmed that Judgment Day – for most people, the pinnacle of the Terminator saga – is indeed returning to the big screen at the end of the summer, marking the 35th anniversary of James Cameron’s super-sequel.

The film is going to be back in cinemas in UK and Ireland from September 4, presented in a variety of formats – including 4K digital, REALD 3D, and other “premium formats”. And, as James Cameron notes, the film remains timely even all these decades later. “T2 was made for theaters, and our lovingly-prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film,” he said in a statement for the re-release. “I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT:  the good guys win against the AI superintelligence!  And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.” It’s been confirmed that the re-release comes from the 2017 4K restoration of the film, and the 3D conversation that it received at that time too.

So, will you be back, too, for another hit of Judgment Day? And will you be following it up with a rewatch of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, or Teminator: Dark Fate? Or – here’s a hot tip – the ace but short-lived anime show Terminator Zero? Choose your own path, and remember: there is no fate but what we make for ourselves.
