Woof Alert: 1982 Bob Vila

Is this outtake of handyman Bob Vila queening out to the Dreamgirls theme on This Old House for real? Because I am obsessed with it. Not only does it satisfy my love for cute boys lip-synching to girly songs when no one's looking, but Bob Vila was actually kind of foxy back in the day. "Woof!" is an understatement. The bear community is going to have to come up with a new word to illustrate all the dirty things I want to do to him.

Does anyone have a time machine? I'm planning a trip back to 1982 so I can attempt to bury this man's thick lumberjack beard into my crotch. I'd even listen to show tunes while we're boning and sing "And I Am Telling You I Will Be Cumming" before jizzing on his face.

UPDATE: Thanks to a commenter, we are now aware that this is a clip from the 1990 film Longtime Companion, which was apparently the first theatrical release to deal with AIDS. The actor's name is Stephen Caffrey. Basically, this isn't Bob Vila, but I'd still totally do him back in the day.

  1. This is a clip from “longtime companion”, the actor lip-syncing is Stephen Caffrey, he played a character namd “Fuzzy”

  2. you know, there is something oddly sexy about manly men lip-syncing. it doesn’t quite fit, and that makes all the more amusing. it’s kind of like watching your parents dance, it doesn’t look right, but you can’t help watching anyway. not that watching your parents dance is sexy, let me nip that one in the bud.

  3. You did not know what this clip was nor did you ask anyone. You have not seen any films about AIDS that weren’t made in the last 5 years. I now understand much more about what appears in this column.

  4. I suppose “Longtime Companion” was the “first” theatrical release to deal with AIDS… if you draw some arbitrary line about the number of theaters it was released in that “just” includes it. “Parting Glances” was released a full four years earlier, and I saw it in a theater at the time – in Baton Rouge, LA, hardly a major arthouse venue.
More to the point: How illiterate does a gay blogger have to be regarding his own history to not even know about films like these? “Longtime Companion” is “apparently”…. Jeez… maybe if you spent more time learning about the culture that happened between Stonewall and the first time you got laid, this blog wouldn’t seem so freakin’ dumb.

  5. Not to mention “An Early Frost”. Try a search on this name: Larry Kramer. You’ll find it interesting.

  6. Are you fucking kidding me. You guys are pissed because Dewitt hasn’t seen a few gay films from the early 90’s. We’re not all old, bitter queens. Sorry I was in my dad’s left nut while you were protesting Anita Bryant. I bet you all know everything there is to know about gay-themed literature from the early 1800’s.

  7. Now, I was in no way old enough to have seen this movie when it was released but I have seen it many times. I am not bitter, a queen or “old” (well the latter is all “relative” I guess) but this IS a classic.
I am definitely not from the school of chastising someone for not knowing something. That’s counterproductive at best, however, I implore every gay man to take the time to see classic gay films like this.
I think it odd that we can roll off the tongue every porno title, actor, site, blog film like the alphabet but have a hard time knowing our history. Guess that’s why we are doomed to repeat; seems the road we are taking.
I guess I am just one of those “old” souls who totally understands why the generations before us are angry that we have forgotten how we have prospered and advanced while riding on their backs. You know? I owe a lot to my predecessors and that’s that.
Anyhoo, I think it a good idea to also see “Love! Valour! Compassion!” It’s a very similar movie (adapted from the play) but with less historical reference and… get this… it was filmed in the 90s. 😉
