Ellie Goulding: “I Know You Care”

Although it took forever and a day, UK songstress Ellie Goulding finally got a hit on this side of the pond with “Lights”. The song was released in March 2011 on the Bright Lights re-release of her debut album, and took one year and three months to peak at number two on the Billboard charts. It was a “sleeper hit” for sure… But, uh, remember the last artist who had a huge sleeper hit like this?

Ellie’s record label was quick to capitalize on the success of “Lights” last month by releasing “Anything Could Happen”, the first single from her new project Halcyon. While the song had a similar indie-dance-pop vibe, it’s yet to truly catch on with radio or chart success. (Then again, it’s very possible that her team’s taking things slow and developing a strategy, in the hopes of yet another sleeper hit.)

With Halcyon due out on October 8th, “I Know You Care” acts as the follow-up to “Anything Could Happen”. It’s a straight-up ballad, much in the style of Goulding’s cover of “Your Song” by Elton John… Oh, and did we mention that it’s fucking beautiful? Because it is.
