Will Obama Be Delivering Big News On DADT?

President Barack Obama, DADT, Don't Ask Don't Tell, State of the Union address, Carl Levin, military ban, gay, news, politics, policy, US

Tomorrow night's State of the Union address may or may not be the "most important" speech of President Barack Obama's political career, but one thing's for sure–he'll be addressing the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy of the US military. How exactly will he be addressing the issue? It's impossible to say.

Michigan senator Carl Levin had planned on holding some hearings on DADT, but he was told to hold off until after the president's address, as the speech would touch upon the issue. Will we be getting more promises to end the military ban? Or will there actually be an action plan to get it done? Keep your fingers crossed for the latter.

  1. good news, dadt will be abolished, just in time since youre losing more guys in iraq and their in need of reinforcements.

  2. I am sure he will say nothing and do nothing, he has peeed in far too many people cheerios already and does not want to piss off more people. Him bringing it up at state of union will touch off more of a fury I am sure.

  3. It figures that the two posts would be negative. It really tires me out that folks expected everything would change overnight once Obama was sworn in. Even McCain couldn’t have fixed the mess left by the junior Bush after being (illegally, some would say) in office for 8 years. No sitting president could try to figure out a way out of that mess without peeing in someone’s cereal of choice. That’s why it’s called “change”- because so many folks hate it! I am reminded of a quote from the play “HATS!”- (paraphrased)- “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t tell a Manhunt blogger (that’s the paraphrase), because they will repeat almost anything!” Google “HATS! The Musical”, and find out about the fun!

  4. I don’t know, I think it will be a great speech but to keep the conservatives quiet he won’t elaborate on the issue. I hope I’m wrong.

  5. Randy,
I see you had negative in your post as well. How do you blame everything on one person, Obama, was there to vote. Oh wait, maybe he spent the entire time going around the US for two years rather than voting on important matters. And you are surely repeating almos anything as well!

  6. He only knows about 20 sentences of rhetoric, which just get reordered for each speech. He’s just a windbag politician with a really good election PR campaign. It is embarrasing how many people got suckered by his “hope” and “change” propaganda. I care a lot more about the GDP and getting business, jobs and prosperity back on track than a silly military DADT policy. For the former, I am convinced the best thing he can do is nothing since he doesn’t have a clue what a business even is. And that is the unapologetic rant of an American business owner. My flogging is sure to follow.

  7. Oh thought we no longer had wars, just over seas contingents. I am sure they will reintroduce it again, using a new name/label (which they seem very good at)

  8. To GM, I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t call DADT a silly thing. I have many friends serving in the military, some gay, and they have to hide an entire side of their lives. One of my friends was killed in Iraq, his boyfriend of 2 years didn’t find out until 4 weeks after the fact. He only found out through a mutual friend of my friends family. His family didn’t want him at the funeral or to have anything to do with the family. I understand the country is in a mess right now and this may not seem like a top priority, but to many of those serving our country, it is. Do you realize how hard it is to date someone when you change bases every 2 to 3 years? I’m not saying anything you said was wrong or incorrect, just stating it is an actual issue, and not some silly policy.
